Stage 1 Kit + K&N Typhoon air intake
Hello:
I just received the GM Stage 1 kit for my 2009 Cobalt SS sedan. I am thinking of pairing with the K&N Typhoon Air intake system shown here:
Amazon.com: K&N 69-4517TTK Typhoon Textured Black Air Intake System: Automotive
This raises a number of questions some of you here may be able to help me with...
First, is the air intake compatible with the Stage 1 and/or advisable?
Also, I've heard that with respect to any modifications you put on the stock vehicle yourself, that the ECU "learns down" to keep the car at its original horsepower/etc.. However, I've also heard that the stage 1 kit turns this feature off, so that you can do such mods. Otherwise, is it all window dressing?
Is there some other air intake that others find better than the typhoon?
Thank you for any help you can offer.
Nathan

This is the one you want:
Filters and Intakes
It's only $204 on that website. That's where I bought mine from.
The only thing about the GMS1 is if you didn't order the plug and play connectors save yourself a potential disaster and GET THEM. I'm having major issues with my GMS1 connections because they were spliced and whoever installed them did not use the plug and play. Trust me, it's worth the extra $100. I've already spent over $200 trying to fix it and it's still not working.

Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "plug and play" connectors? A bunch of wiring came in the box. Do you mean to say you can save a few bucks by not buying the new wires and just splicing them?

well with if you were to go to a dealership and order GM stage 1. it will come and most likely have to be installed by the dealership because you have to cut and solder wires.
with the crate engine depot GM stage 1 kit,you dont have to cut and solder wires. CED makes a pig tail where it is direct plug and play.
this is the plug and play kit Cobalt, Solstice, HHR Stage Kit 19212670HK
this is the kit where it needs to be cut and solder the factory wiring harness 19212670 Cobalt, Solstice, HHR Stage Kit 19212670
its a no brainer. everyone or atleast alot of people who have got the regular GM stage 1 kit have had lots of problems with the soldering.

Alright, hold up a minute. Makes sure to have everything in line before you visit the dealer.
19212711 is the part number for the instructions, not the whole kit.
As said before, if you bought the whole kit then great, but you absolutely need the newer adapters. Cobalt, Solstice, HHR Stage Kit Harness Adapter 19212670H
Basically the original GMS1 kit was designed to be spliced into the stock wiring. The plug and play adapter removes the need for splicing. The reason they did this is that many people have had issues with the splicing.
So to summarize.
If you have the GMS1 kit, get the plug and play connectors in the link. Then take it to the dealer and make sure they don't splice into the stock wiring and use your plug and play connectors.

still have to have the dealer upload the tune, but yes you could install the rest yourself. Either way it's got to go in and I always preferred the dealer do it so they can fix their mistakes. 100k mile warranty on the kit as well so put the work in their hands just in case. IDK everyone feels different.

I installed my sensors and drove it to the dealership. Very easy, FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS lol so simple to put in. The one o. The intercooler is kind of tough but not hard.
If you do install the zensors your self DO NOT go i to boost, or else you will put the car i to limp mode and the dealership might charge you to clear the code.
