Starting Problem with Cobalt ss/tc help
I had a check engine light the other day which I cleared thinking if it was something other than a random light it would come back on. It never did what did happen was that after i filled up on gas my car would not start it attempted to but i just got a chingchingchingchingchingching and then when i presesed on the gas it sputtered and started up then died, i tryed again and held the gas and rpms at 3grand for ten seconds after that it idled and ran fine. I figured it was nuthing but then it happend two days later same situation filled up with gas and woulddent start untill i pressed the gas a bit and then it sputtered to a start. After that it started and ran fine. does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks

If its the purge valve, the CEL will come back, just wait and see if you get the P0496 code, then you can be sure you are changing the right part.
I got that cel and changed the purge valve this last week. Its very easy to do, its right on the intake manifold.
Mine had no problem with filling the gas tank tho, it run erratic on cold startup for 1-2 second then the idle will move up and down until catwarmup is fisnished... i thought it was because of the purge but it is not related... the car have better response with the new purge valve though.
By doing the purge disconnect trick you can see if that solve your starting issue.

Definitely vapor lock.
I had the same problem with my '08, anytime the car sat for a couple mins and you tried to restart it (like after getting gas), the car would just crank forever. If you let the car sit for 10-15 mins the excess fuel evaporates and you can start it up.
Dealer replaced my purge solenoid as well as the HPFP under warranty, not sure the HPFP was necessary but the tech was convinced it was related to the vapor lock issue and it was free.
