Thumbs up Stock Muffler Replacement

* New Video added at bottom of original post*

Installed my ZZP catless DP over the weekend (**** YOU top resonator bolt and your rusty, grimey ass self). Excited, I started her up and was quickly reminded of the first go-round (RY sedan, MPX catless) and how it just wasn't aggressive enough for my taste. Prior to selling my RY sedan, I had plans to install a Dynomax bullet in place of the stock muffler to try and add a little more agressive tone but obviously didn't get around to it.

Well, yesterday I was doing my research for what I was after (case length,resonator/muffler, stainless/aluminum, etc.) and stumbled upon a great deal for a stainless steel "muffler" (more of a resonator than anything) from Pypes called an M-80.

Plan on keeping the factory resonator to create my own "FL" exhaust

I also plan to re-use the factory tip too.

Details:

14" case length (actual muffling piece)
4" diameter case
2 1/2" in/out, center/center
perfourated chamber with heat resistant packing (similar to a glass pack without the fiberglass and protruding louvers)

* New Video added*

No problem man. That's exactly why I didn't do the muffler delete that everyone seems to like so much. I HATE rasp. So much so, that on my 01 SS Camaro's true dual exhaust, I had $280+ a piece Borla XR-1's

I'm after a semi-aggressive tone but something that's relatively clean.

If you get rasp with a muffler delete, you're doing it wrong.

Between the turbo, stock resonator and this larger resonator it should sound great. It's nothing like an SS/SC

I have an 09. I went to my friendly muffler shop, had them cut everything off behind the cat, and had them custom bend a 3" pipe welded directly to the cat and routed to the stock location. I used a cheap, generic 3" ID glass pack, installed backwards (it's about 16" long - you can look up the pipe from the exhaust tip), mounted in the stock location, and then added a 3" tip. It sounds great, no back pressure to speak of, and looks absolutely legal to any law enforcement.

Didn't cost an arm and a leg. It was about $200 for everything.

The turbo is enough back pressure.

Received the "muffler" today. The damn thing is nothing but a resonator! LOL

Should sound great! Will post videos once I get it put on come Wednesday.

I had a cordless one that was bad ass but after 5 years of abuse, she **** the bed. Definitely used antiseize when reinstalling them

Got the "muffler" installed today and it sounds awesome! No rasp, a nice deep tone and plenty of turbo whistle. Sounds exactly like the Turbo XS FL exhaust

Will post some pics and a video shortly.

Thanks Jay

I added a new video to the OP since the last one was **** (leaking at the v-band). Youtube compression really tones down the bass but it's still better than the previous video.

As you can tell, no rasp and no obnoxious fart can noise. Not a whole lot of change inside the car unless you roll the window(s) down.

Lets see if anyone notices the surprise in the video...
