Superchips and Downpipe?

I have a Superchips tune right now with a Hahn intake and ZZP upper charge pipe. I just ordered ZZP's catted downpipe. My question is, will I be ok in terms of fuel trims? Will I be running lean and is it dangerous? The rest of the exhaust is stock.
I really don't want to change tunes.

hmm I'm not sure how good the superchips is at learning mods or how their afr's and trims are. Cant you get it retuned? I thought SCT offered a software to tune some yourself on a computer? I ask because Its the only tuning for my escape, so I've been reading into it.

On the SS, the only options are rev limits. Its a preset tune.

You are already running lean with the Hahn intake. I'll bet your fuel trims are +10 or higher. The DP shouldn't change it much but you should get a real tune & have it logged & tweaked for the intake.

Any Intake kinda screws up our cars if not properly tuned for it, so go get a real tune and you will be fine

ask superchips on the forum or call to see if they have updated tunes for those mods. they were starting to update tunes with intakes, cai's etc.

I had superchips and a ZZP catless downpipe and it ran great . The thing that messed with the fuel trims on my car was the K&N filter and airbox mod. I saw a high as -9 LTFT but when i put the stock filter and uncut airbox back in the trims were back to +/- 1 .

Is that bad? Will it cause any engine damage?

GM has a + or- 20 LTFT buffer before it will throw a check engine lite or set a DCT. That said .... the car is adding a good bit of fuel at +12 to make up for a lean condition.

Yeah mine too.... the car wouldn't want to go on a cold start .... even with the water temp at 130-140 it would bog out at 1/2 throttle . The superchips tune is a good tune IMHO .... but you need to realize it is meant for a bone stock car . They say bolt on's arent supported by the tune .

I ran the superchips and ZZP DP with no problems for a while before going with Trifecta... the Hahn CAI will be the big hurdle

the DP will throw a couple of codes though(all o2 related), so be prepared for that

yeah, you may throw codes like P2261 ( two MAFS) or P206(I think) for fuel trims off. The p2261 is caused by your pcm reading different flow readings then stock, so if the two don't match up from air entering into the intake and out the dp where the turbo manifold is, then you'll get kicked with the p2261, and maybe 25% possibility into LIMP mode. That's coming from my experience, sinced all I have is the just the Injen CP and ZZP Catless DP with GMS1, but very rare my car will go into LIMP mode. Here is a forum about P2261. But, I'm sure it was the BPV being the issue for not opening up enough and you get that turkey sound.

Thanks for all the info guys. I guess I'll try my luck. Do you think our cars will react better with say the new K&N SRI vs a Hahn or others?

From what I've seen the K&N keeps the fuel trim's pretty decent even on stock tune cars. That would be the best bet for a superchips tune IMHO

yayer. kretty from MN just called me and said his hahn was throwing his trims by +7-12 on a gm stage 1 tune... yikes. So the intake needs to be tuned for or I say get the k&n.

Thanks again guys. I'm gonna look into which tuning route to go with. One more question. Is it necessary to change the gaskets when changing a Down Pipe?

no... running the ZZP on the stock gasket, exhaust guy said it was the best fit he'd ever seen with a stock gasket

as far as tuning, either trifecta or BYT, both which take advantage of Vince's unlocked tables

i'm bolt-on(dp,cp,intake) with a "mild" 22-23psi Trifecta tune and can take Ls3 camaros, etc... no world beater but quite the sleeper

Thanks for the info. I guess I should have researched this a bit better before I bought it . I was not intending to change tunes. All I really wanted from this down pipe mod was some more sound out of the exhaust. So confused.

The downpipe isn't going to screw the superchips tune up so you don't have to worry about that . The CAI is what messes with the fuel trims . I would use the SC tuner to log and or watch what the fuel trims are doing .

yeah the only thing you need to get tuned off of the downpipe, is the codes it throws... car will run fine

and for some reason, the catless downpipes seem to be better at not throwing codes, I just didn't want my car that loud

Yep the newer catless downpipes with the extended o2 bungs are pretty good about not throwing codes. Mine hasn't thrown a code for atleast a year........ but it did throw one or two the first month or so that it was on . Bama's right about the sound increase too. When you get on it ....it's pretty loud ...even with the stock catback .

actually a cold start is when a Catless DP is REALLY loud... I mean it gets quiter... you know, after you wake everyone up in the morning cranking your damn car

if it was just loud at WOT, I would have gotten one
