Superchips Tune Problems?

Hey Guys,

So I was just wondering has anyone had any problems with the superchips tune? I hear all these stories about blown pistions and rings etc and I was wondering if anyone has had any major or even minor problems due to the superchips tune. Running too rich or too lean?

I dont want to turn this into a "This tune it better then that tune thread" so please, if you are going to come in and bash SC tune or any other tune for that matter, just leave.

Thanks.

I haven't heard of any problems with the SC tune except some people say that it causes 1st gear to be very touchy/sensitive.

I had it for about a month, first gear becomes super sensitive, other than that no problems.

Good stuff so far. I was mostly worried if the tune ran too rich or lean since I dont have a A/F gauge or the RPD. My car is having some problems (See post: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/problems-service-maintenance-69/flashing-cel-smells-like-rotten-eggs-200705/) and I was just seeing if it could be related to my tune.

the superchips tune i have i loged a 12.5 a/f ratio which i think is a little rich for there cars but i think u need to invest in a catless dowpipe to fix ur problem like they said

Yep, it is commanded at 0.85 lambda (12.5 A/F) IMHO 12.5 A/F on the stock timing which the SC tuner uses is a touch rich. Not crazy rich though. I think they used 12.5 and stock timing so that those who are running 91 octane, especially that stuff they have in Cali, will have no knock issues.

Your car is misfiring likely from running too lean, probably due to fuel obstruction. Also, your Hahn intake causes positive LTFTs which means the car is trying to compensate for a lean condition.

Have had mine for about a month, only have about 2000 miles on my car at this point, so still breaking in some. First gear has to be modulated (I imagine the same would be said for any tune) because if you stomp on it, it just instantly vaporizes the tires. In the cold air of south florida (lately,...been in the 30's here!) second gear....is as useful as first. Roll hard in to second at 2000 rpm's and it just lights 'em up. Springs to about 22-23 psi then corrects to 20 psi and stays until about 5000 rpm's where it climbs to about 21-22 psi to redline. Very entertaining and fun, but reality is you have to plan things out somewhat in the lower gears, again, Im sure this is amplified in the cold air right now.
But I love it. Safe baby tune with all the ***** I need right now. And the 2yr warranty with the Cortex is a nice bonus.

Superchips updated the tune last month, 1st gear is MUCH better than the 1st tune they put out... also raised the rev limiter a little to 6500(from 6300 which I believe is stock)

Is that something I should be worried about?

You should get tuned for that intake ideally.

I've had the superchips tune for the last 7 months or so and havent had any issues . You can use the Cortex to log 4 different parameters in the DAQ section.

I actually use mine as a gauge (got it in a cell phone holder clipped to the vent) and watch timing , AFR, LTFT and maf lbs/min. There are a bunch of different ones to chose from. It can also log up to 1 minute of any 4 parameters you pick , then you download to your PC and take a look at them . I log a 0-100 pull every once in awhile and then check the log to make sure there isn't anything wrong .

Bama is right SC updated the tune last month ....If you think 1st is touchy now ....you should have tried it before hehe. If you bought one lately and didn't update it before tuning the car ....you might be using the old tune.

I updated mine out of the box right after the new update came out, so I have the newest file as far as I know.

you're still going to spin in 1st gear, but originally, 1st gear was actually screwed up... you couldn't "feather" the boost in 1st, it was none or all 20psi it seemed... now racing, you didn't really notice anywhere, where you noticed it was trying to merge onto the highway or something, where you had to accelerate "spirited" but not @ WOT

I had no idea the Cortex could do this. I will have to try it out once I get my car back.
