TC not staying running.

My car started acting up the other night. Surging and feeling like it wanted to die when I let off throttle / down-shift. Threw a P0106 and I cleared it. Got up to go to work yesterday and it cranks and sputters / dies. I can sorta keep it running if I give it fuel but still will die. I assume it is the Map sensors (I am GMS1)? I figure it has to be either that or the fuel pump? The pump kicks on when I turn the ignition and it will stutter to life every time. I took that as the MAP sensors were bad and ordered 2 news one (and o-rings) just to be safe. I figured while I wait, I'd start a thread just to see if you guys are thinking that will solve the issue (based on symptoms given). Thanks.

Could be. I am not sure what would've happened to get that bad. I noticed it acting up and now it won't even stay running. I wanted to check my end-tanks just as a precaution, but I got to at least get it running again to get it over to my buddy's shop. So I still am assuming the MAP is the 1st thing to try, but was hoping some of the guys that have had them go out, would chime in and confirm these symptoms.

Are you puffing out black smoke? If so, it's definitely your IC endtanks. You're running rich because of all the unmetered air being brought into the system through the leak-spot. A MAP sensor going out won't cause you to stall.

I can't say for sure. It was dark out on thursday when it threw the p0106 and started acting up. Then like I said, i shut it off when I got home and fri morn it wouldn't stay running. I tried it again today, just to see, and same deal. So I sould have my sensors in on tues but if anyone has a better explanation, then I'm open to hear it. If I have to, I can either have AAA flatbed it to my friends shop or to the dealer. I'm out of warranty though, so was trying to avoid a costly dealer visit, if possible.

Pull the MAP sensor off and take a look. I pulled mine a while back and it was filthy. I cleaned it and it ran fine after that. I should probably get some new O-rings for them as well. But I've had the same problem and just cleaned the sensor then it was good to go.

Cool, thanks guys. My parts should be here today. 2 new sensors and new o-rings. I'm just gonna change both, while I'm at it. Not sure if I'll be able to get them installed tonight or not (seeing as the car is parked on the street and it is pouring/snowing mix today) but once I get them in, I'll report back as to whether or not it fixes the problem. I'm fairly confident that it will, so I hope I'm right.

Yeah, map sensor should definitely not cause a stall. My last lnf had a map sensor failure and never once had an issue stalling other than it ran rich and didn't pull nearly as hard unless yours plainly blew an o-ring and is skewing your trims pretty badly. Hell, I have been no less than a mile from the house and had a charge pipe blow off before. Never once stalled but others have issues. These cars are just really picky sometimes.

I had an issue like this once. Had my car dead lined for a couple days. It turned out that I popped my cold side charge pipe off the throttle body. I would turn the car over, it would run for maybe a second or two then die.

Well a quick update:
Installed both new sensors last night. Reconnected the battery and it fired right up and ran perfect. I let it idle for a bit and then took it for a 10min drive. No problems at all. Now comes the weird part, lol...This morning I start the car before work. It stays running but sounds like a diesel truck. Then like every single warning light cycled through my dash (traction, reduced power etc). I turned it off, then restarted and no warning lghts came on. I cleared the CEL with my scanner and it ran super smooth again. I just drove it to work (and a bit extra) which totalled 60mils and it was flawless. So I dunno what to think at this point. I feel like it is gonna be fine but that little episode this morning certainly scared me a bit. Any ideas / input?

Happen to have the part number for the o-rings you got? I have to replace them since I popped my sensors off last night to clean it.

They're completely reusable, so unless they're damaged somehow or they flattened out over time there should be no reason why you would need to replace the map sensor o-rings. Either way, here's the link to the ones you want.
