Tensioner Questions.... on my second one.
Hey Everyone,
Just wanting to get some input on some tensioner issues that I have been having. I'm currently on my second tensioner that I purchased from ZZP. The reason for replacing the first was because I was getting a wierd grinding noise at certain RPM's throughout the powerband. Had it replaced and it was good for about 2 weeks when the noise came back again. The first tensioner I opened up and saw that the seal had been blown. The noise currently is heard "ESPECIALLY" during startup(clashing & grinding) and at around 3000rpm's it starts again. Does anyone have an idea of what could be happening? I know that when you purchase them they come compressed already, is there something that I'm missing to do during install? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i would say the tensioner guides are bad, particularly the black colored one on the intake side of the head; the 6 mm x 1.0 mm shouldered bolt also breaks. The LNF seems to jump the rocker off the cam love/lifter pivot as well...I am thinking over-revs or sustained high revs really shorten the life of these items...talking a 39-40k mile tensioner guide replacement cycle for extreme duty. In road racing we change that stuff every 10 hours or so. Drag racing more often.

My car only has a total of 25k on it(2007). I changed the first tensioner at 22K. Not sure what your talking about Mr.Powell. I'd have to get some pics or just get in my motor to see. What is the exact procedure?

Thank you so much Sir!! That helped a lot. I will look at see how those parts are looking. I mean, can you see them being bad with on 25k? The only mods I have are Cams and Supertechs. Once I get back to land I promise to take a video of it starting up and reving so you can better understand the problem. I'm in the middle of the Ocean right now so kinda can't do it. LOL
