For those with Forge BPV

So with the forge BPV I hear people talk about flutter sometimes. There is a certain way it should be installed. If you have the BPV pointed any other way than down you will get the flutter noise.
I have a pic of how it's supposed to be. I noticed this when I changed the positioning of my BPV recently that I started getting flutter. So I put it back to normal and now it's normal again.

I hope this helps people.

There is so much misconception here. I got flutter in first gear in vacuum (also because I did a tank bypass), I know that's normal and as soon as its over 0PSI its vents normal, and especially vents normal at WOT and redline.

If you are "fluttering" in vacuum or below 5psi and you have normal operation in boost and at WOT/redline there is not a problem.

Now when its facing the wrong way or has a yellow spring in it and you flash a stock tune like it did it makes that "flutter" noise that is really more of a surge, that would happen at all times, especially WOT. I didn't dare beat on it for the 2 miles I realized that happened.

What people are talking about when they talk about flutter is in fact when the bpv is installed wrong. There is only one hole on one side of the bpv and that hole has to be pointing at the hole inside the turbo that leads back to the intake side of turbo. If u have the bpv on wrong the hole on the bpv points into a wall of aluminum with no where to go, so when it opens it will hit the wall and go back into the charge pipe and into the compressor blades causing flutter. That's what is meant. Any other mild flutter when it's on right is fine.

I dont need to comment but they answered it above. No issues with my Forge BPV. Its installed correctly, green spring, light flutter under low low low vacuum. No flutters at 0 psi or higher. Totally normal.

Gen 1 bpv owners have a nipple that sticks straight out, not a 90.

How is there misconception if I'm right? It has to be installed correctly. Read below.

Tom is trying to say that the inside where the bpv goes in has a hole and it has to line up with the hole that's in the bpv. I didn't know that so that might be a prob. for others too.

Well I just made this because I looked up pictures of the forge BPV and a lot of them were installed incorrectly, so I figured maybe other people are installing them incorrectly as well. I know my turbo isn't surging either because there is 0 shaft play. (I checked because I wanted to see the condition of my turbo and it's good!)

This post is simply to help out the guys that install a new forge BPV and complain about flutter, not saying it is the ONLY reason it's happening but it's good to check and see the positioning of it before you go off assuming it's a bigger problem. Adjusting the BPV to face the right way takes 20min tops including going and grabbing all your tools.

Just thought I'd add something to maybe help with all the posts about the forge BPV I've been seeing.

I didn't say Tom was wrong lol. He's right, I believe it's so the bypass recirculates correctly. He explained it in his post.

Haha. Yes I am right, I make sure they line up every time I remove it. But the flutter u get from that is a lot different than just ur normal flutter. The zfr flutters worse than stock turbo, I'm convinced the passage in the turbo just isn't big enough to vent all the air fast enough so that why u get the flutter. When u have it on wrong the flutter sounds very low pitched compared to if it's installed right and ur just getting normal flutter

No offense guys but I had mine installed right twice after taking it apart twice and after about a day of driving each time when I started it the next day it would not work right. Did this twice in 3 weeks so put the stock one on and it's been fine since. Would only boost to 5 psi and was also not bypassing correctly. I'm not the only gear head this has happened to. I know the right way to install it. Hope you all have good luck with yours. Looked like the spring on mine was getting stuck in the piston some how.

Also have to make sure the valve doesn't leak. I tighten down the cap with with channel locks. Use some Teflon or similar on the nipple threads.
