So that works pretty well by getting two stickier tires for the front on the strip for our FWD cars and leaving the rears stock?

It would make sense. I do autocross, so my knowledge about running on the drag strip is limited...

Yes, that would work. I wouldn't recommend running them all the time though, just bolt them on for the track.

Yeah....the pair i have for dragracing only go on at the track and come right off before I leave. Its a great idea and cuts a lot of time off your 1/4.

If you light up the tires at all during launch it shuts down power and absolutely kills the 60' times. Best launch technique I've found so far is to hold the revs between 2 and 2.5k rpm's and quickly feather the clutch out but don't go full WOT in first gear. It will spool up and break traction and just spin. Tire pressure changes didn't make a significant difference for me and I suspect the stiff sidewalls in the Conti's won't show much improvement from dropping the pressure a lot.

This was all at California Speedway and traction absolutely sucked so if you have a really sticky track or figure out a way to run some sticker tires over the giant brakes you may find that something else works better for you.
dude you have a lot of cars lol

^Wow, if your post had a point ... I would have been impressed.

Regardless, I've seen modded go carts that were faster than 03-04 SVT 'Stangs.

MY POINT is that anyone can MAKE anything fast.

But the 'Balt SS's are ALREADY fast right off the showroom floor ...

I drove an 08 SS/TC this afternoon and it had a Traction Control disable button on the dash to the right of the steering wheel -- does that button/switch disable the Traction Control to prevent the problem you describe in your post?

Other than that, that's funny that you ran faster in your ss/sc. But you did have some healthy trap speed in the ss/tc.

Actually he nailed a 2.06 60' time on the stock tires... But that doesnt negate your point, the stock tires are not for drag racing, they are more for handling.

I'm glad to see you on this forum...you'll be a great addition. You have made quite a contribution over at the srt forums! So this is pretty exciting...anyhow...still not a bad time...I'm sure once you get use to how to drive that car it'll be much better.

Thanks. I've always liked the old supercharged cars and have poked around here for a while. For a long time I was kicking around the idea of either throwing a blower on my SVT Focus or picking up a used LSJ car, but when I heard the Cobalt was getting the turbo engine and a ton of suspension upgrades I fell for the temptation.

I've got a good feel for how to launch the Cobalt but the SoCal track conditions conspire against me. I guess it will eventually be like the Neon where I went from running low 14's to high 12's over a one week period with just the addition of slicks and getting good track conditions. Just need to look into some stickier tires for the SS but I'm in ho hurry. It's fun enough for now.

I've got a 13.9 on the 1/4.... Though using the stock conti's i could only get a 14.4.

got the 13.9 with a set of my buddies tires. They gripped so well that I bought a set with wheels for mine. I didn't use anything for the launch....Traction control was off and I feathered the clutch, hit 2nd and put in comp mode...it worked well for me and the tires really stuck too.
