Trifecta budget tune and AFR's
Hey was just wondering what I should be seeing for AFR on Trifecta budget, at idle and normal driving/acceleration I am sitting around 13.5 - 14.
Under heavy acceleration 12-12.5..
Under GMS1 I would be in the 13-14 range under heavy acceleration...

12s are perfect for making power, any more lean and its wasting fuel, 13.5-14 is perfect as 14.7 is the perfect ratio of fuel to air is 14.7. I dont know anything about tunes but i hope this helps, maybe more will chime in
It should be what ever your AFR CMD is at any given time.
14.7 is the stoichiometric ratio. It means all oxygen molecules are consumed evenly with gas molecules. <14.7 means you will have fuel vapor exiting with your exhaust. >14.7 means your EGTs are running hot and your cooling system is working overtime.

Running lean is not wasting fuel, when ur lean ur injecting less fuel and it means ur runnin hotter. To lean can melt pistons. Running to rich would be a waste of fuel plus would foul ur plugs.

Ur a/f is right for what trifecta sets it at. Some guys say it's to rich and hp tuner guys like theirs around 12.8, but Vince's reasoning is u never know if ur gonna get bad fuel, so he keeps it a little rich to keep u on the safe side. He won't change it, so don't try, Iv asked. I know direct injection can go leaner, but I understand his reasons, no one can blame his tune for blowing something up cause of being to lean
hey this is a real good note for me.. im lookin to get an AFR and trifecta tune as well. but im not GMS1, i just have intake and exhaust...
ooops just realized this is for LNF, will LSJ get the same numbers on trifecta tune?

You know how those kids with there civics claim an intake adds more horsepower even though they dont have a tune? Its because all cars at WOT run like a 12.0 AFR so there is extra fuel there to have a more complete combustion with the extra air flow coming in the from the intake modification.
MAP sensor cars can utilize this, MAF sensor cars usually end up having issues which lead to CELs.
i haven thrown ne CEL's from the CAI but i though(cuz i didnt know) intake and full exhaust didn throw the car off and a tune is unnecessary cuz im not modded with anything big... but i was then educated to understand otherwise... what i didn know is that a friggin wideband(AFR right?) is expensive! lol..

EDIT: I just figured out you have a SS/SC car and this thread is in the LNF section so I made an assumption. my bad.
lol.. its cool made the same mistake up top lol.. but i thought u was followin me.. so now that you know i got an SC and i made the mistake comin into the wrong thread.. does everything else you said still stand correct? lol..
yup, everything I said is in general of any combustion engine.
Engines run ruch at WOT because the manufacture wants to make sure the engine is safe. Running WOT will provide a secondary cooling system other than the coolant and oil thats utilized through air to water cooler (radiator). Unburned gas in a liquid form/ vaporized form will absorb heat and carry it out through the exhaust. Thus why I said running lean will give you higher EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures). EGTs are something tuners will follow to find out how the car is running (rich or lean). High EGTs can mean you running lean and your engine is about to melt. AFR actually will measure the Oxygen content thats in the uncatalyzed exhaust and calculate an Air fuel ratio. It DOES NOT see the fuel vapor floating in the exhuast so it cant tell you any info about the combustion other than the amount of unburned oxygen left. EGTs however can give you a hint to how rich or lean the car is ontop of what the AFR tells you. 99.9% of the time though, a wide band is accurate with the AFR. There are VERY little instances that dont get picked up by some other sensor in which your car is running lean but the AFR shows it as rich... those O_2 sensors are pretty accurate.
And no you dont have a wide band from factory lol.

Thats perfectly normal. Hptuned cars run about 12.7-12.8 arfs. Trifecta is just as you stated. Vince claims he can make great power running richer and HP Tuners think otherwise which believe 12.8 is the sweet spot.
And thanks everyone!
Its somewhat of a dialed down tune, 95% of his regular tune's potential from what i've hear, and at $200!
