Tune questions

Me:

Hey just curious if you guys are a Trifecta *dealer? Thanks!
*
Trifecta Performance Custom Tuning :: Dealers, Independent Tuners and Affiliates

Dealer:

No, hp tuners only.

Me:

Do you have any source for replacement ecus? Warranty (at a glance) is a concern. Hp tuners as far as I know will show up on a basic diagnostics test at the dealership, where as trifecta will not. Also I love the selectable tune, which makes it very practical.

Dealer:

We could sell you a sct x3 I believe so you can put the stock tune back into your ecu.

Question, where and how much is a spare ecu/PCM. Also (would like to go hptuners) but has anyone heard of this sct tuner? Seems like it would be detectable just like the up tune. I want the option of putting my car to stock for dealer visits and winter.

Suggestions?

What trifecta dealer did you try there are only two in Canada both quite a ways From you? If you live a long distance from anyone with Hpt or Trifecta you would maybe want to buy you're own cable or software perhaps for logging or go through Vince directly??? I am not familiar with the sct3 handheld sorry.

Yeah going through Vince will probably be the end result, shipping and border fees make it pricey. Too bad there is no price break for us Canadians, also if he could hook me up with a deal I'd be the only trifecta tuner in my entire province..... Ah to dream.

I just would like the most, hptune with spare ECM.

The spare ECM's show up in the Classifieds every once in a while. The E-85 thing caused some to get scooped up in a hurry, but keep your eyes peeled. One will show up. I'm not sure if the VIN matching thing causing a problem with HPT or not.

Any alteration of the PCM can be traced through the dealer if they really want to find it. Basically the only way to get away with it is to buy a seperate PCM and swap it. Hptuners can perform a write entire stock which makes it very difficult for GM to find but still leaves traces. ZZP sells a PCM for the cobalt with a HPtune already on it. You could then alter it VIA HPtuners at any time if you have the software or a local tuner. Trifecta does have the selecta tune which is pretty cool but I would only use it as a E85 tune so you dont have to flash the car between fuel changes. No point in having two gas tunes on your car. Just dont floor it and you wont make the power lol. But remember you have to pay to play so getting another PCM will help but things seem to always come and bite me in the ass when i do stuff like that. lol

I personally have 2 ECU's for this reason. I think it's a great idea and a smart decision.

Yeah I understand the whole pay to play, I'm only worried about the warranty "at a glance" I mean, I don't want issues getting stuff fixed that would likely be unrelatedn to the tune, in addition to needing to de tune for winter the spare PCM would be pro.

Consensus... Get hp tune, because everything is detectable. Get spare if your engine blows up and worry then/later.

If you're tuned in the summer, you need to be tuned in the winter unless you are taking all your mods off. You just need to alter the tune for summer and winter use.

Only mods will be tune and dp and k&n (during summer)

Winter will be stock dp and filter and tune.

I want an aggressive tune
