Tuning
been lurking for a week or so, plan on getting an 08 ss. I was wondering if tuning will void the warranty? if not, how much would i gain from just a tune and maybe an intake? i want to keep the exhaust stock, i dont care for the sound of a 4cyl, but try to squeeze some extra power out of it and get better fuel mileage, driveability, etc.

yeah honestly..... if there is any possible way that a dealership can try to relate a problem to what you modded, then that is a warranty void.
Even if the part you modded really didn't cause the problem... if they can prove it, especially legally in a court of law, then your fucked.
Best bet.... just don't mod anything. I mean.. there are of course appearance and cosmetical thing you can still do to your car that don't involve cutting or fabricating that won't void the warranty.
But I mean...its always a gamble when you mod and change ****.
Dealership don't like to warranty ANYTHING that isn't the exact way you got it from them. They are not in the business of "hooking" people up... think of it like an insurance company.

Only way I would mod something is if I got a signed statement from the service manager claiming that the exact mod I described would not void my warranty(contractual obligation made). Then take pictures and keep documents of each of your mods to go along with the contract. Though I doubt any dealer would do this.. Just stating, personally, thats the only way I would mod.
I wouldn't even trust the dealer just saying it would be OK.. cuz when time comes to fix your ride if something major (or minor) fails..... depending on the dealership's integrity.....they might play dumb and still try to **** ya over.
The great thing about the Cobalt SS/Ts is they come stock pretty fast. Modding is fun and its always sweet to get more power... But the cobalt is not a car you HAVE to mod to be fun.

I am stock and getting 33mpg and all I have is a little tunning done by me (still not done tunning) and am side by side with my dads 6.0 gto thats stock. so with very little work they car is very quick even in stock trim.

sry dood, no you don't..........99% of the 08's are sold and have been for about a month already. You will be getting an 09 forsure and you may not get it immediately either, alot of ppl ordered 09's as well after they couldn't get their hands on an 08.
Tuning........dood, GMPP whether anyone wants to admit it or not is going to be releasing stage kits for this car similar to what the SRT's got.......i forsee stage kits being released for sometime next summer.

gm can void your powertrain and or electrical warranty for aftermarket tunes. some dealerships are cooler about it than others, but you are def taking your warranty into your own hands when you eff with the ecu.

GM now can also see EACH AND EVERYTIME u get tuned and keep track of it

But GM I think will be coming out with something. I even take 20 -30 more hp & tq if they have something. I love that GM's 5yr/100K
