Tuning issue (Trifecta) or something else?

So I got my PWerks K04+ installed and the first day I logged it, it pulled fine. Did some mild driving with 2 WOT pulls for datalogs for Vince. Then finished driving home. Told him my boost wouldn't go past 20psi.

This morning I go to work and do another log for him but it wouldn't go past 0psi. Stayed negative and boosted to 0 psi.

Sent him more logs.

All day went by and I emailed him again to ask him about it and he asks if there's any CEL. He says the tune is commanding full wastegate and he thinks the tune is good, but he'll compare them to my previous tunes, which I found weird since my previous tunes are regular K04 not K04+

I then got in my car for my alignment appointment and bam CEL and it read P0089 (Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance)

P0089
The fuel pressure adjustment is greater than +2.5 MPa (+363 psi) or less than -2.5 MPa (-363 psi).
The DTCs set when the above conditions are met for 4 seconds.
Told Vince about it and he thinks that explains my limp mode. Here's his words verbatim after I asked if it's related to the turbo install, "It is unrelated but if you have aftermarket charge tubes that contact the high pressure pump or fuel pressure regulator, you can get this code."

So I looked and I apologize for my idiocy but I have no idea what I'm looking for. So I cleared the code and logged some stop and go traffic for Vince. He asked me if the code came back after I cleared it and well it hasn't, but then again I wasn't trying to get up to redline like I was before (which took forever)

Anyway I ask you guys, any ideas?

check to see if your charge piping is rubbing any wires or hitting something i suppose. i dunno much about that code either but i am positive it has nothing to do with your turbo.

Okay Vince responded with;

It doesn’t look like the wastegate is working at all now.

The ECM is commanding “full wastegate” but nothing is happening.
and I responded with

So is the turbo broken?

Then he said,

Well, it could be a number of things.

1. Wastegate actuator rod

2. Wastegate actuator

3. Wastegate control solenoid

4. Boost/vac references / lines between wastegate control solenoid

But it’s unlikely it’s the turbo itself.

I’ve heard of cases where wastegate actuators loosened up and cause this symptom.
So I'll find out tomorrow if there's something wrong with the wastegate

It's wither.the.stock boost controller or a boost leak or tune.

So anyone know if the wastegate is indeed stuck how simple of a fix is this? I am still under warranty from Precision Turbo so if need be I'll just get it shipped to them and get it fixed, but I wanna avoid that if possible!

If it needs to be replaced you could just do it yourself. The wastegate is easy to remove/ install.

Check to see if you punctured an IC pipe, the IC, or an IC pipe came off.

Boost leak test should always be your first test. If your wastegate is malfunctioning, it could be a product of your wastegate solenoid or the vac pot that controls it. I think it's more likely to stick closed than open, though, and it's a rare failure anyway. Like everyone is saying, check the plug that goes into your fuel pressure regulator, right at front/top of the hpfp. Those wires leading into the plug sometimes get pulled on and broken. One other member on here had an issue with the plunger part of the hpfp breaking, but that's the only time I've heard of that.

p.s. vahdyx, my man, you have had more issues than just about anyone on here. This K04+ thing seems like a pain in the ass. Did you install the K04+ because you were having issues similar to this with your stock turbo?

So in theory can I take the waste gate off my stock K04 and put it on my K04+ if its broken?

Also I cleared the CEL and it has yet to come back.

Okay if you guys were curious the problem has been identified and is currently being worked on. The Turbos wastegate actuator rod apparently had a loose nut and fell off. So the rod was able to move freely I guess. He's adding the nut and claims he can get the rod pretty close if not perfectly set.

Should I tell him anything or let him do his job.

OMG! So, you got one turbo with a lot of shaft play, then another with a loose wastegate jam nut? WTF is wrong with that company? Sorry, Mike. Nobody deserves this kind of crappy products, especially for what you paid for it.

Yeah, my turbo intake fins were damaged.

Well the story goes, I bought a used one on CSS.net that someone was claiming to be brand new unused and it had a bad oil seal. Thus making me pay to put my stock turbo back on, which caused damage to my stock turbo, thus making me buy a truly brand new unused ko4+ from Pwerks then when received it had too much shaft play, shipped it back to precision turbo and they fixed the clearences then they returned it with a loose nut on waste gate. Then I had to bring it back to get it fixed.

The shop guy put loctite on it and to be honest with you guys. Driving home today was a blast. The K04+ is noticibly faster than my stock turbo is. I am happy now. Vince is gonna do some fine tuning and once that's done I'll dyno it and dyno it with E85 and see if my track numbers improved. It's weird that as soon as it works and puts a smile on my face the shitty road it took to get here seems to melt away.

All is well now, but damn did it take time and effort!
