Canada warning: Canadian orders surprise

I ordered the stage 1 kit from CratEngineDepot and received it today after it was held at the border. To my surprise today i ended up having to pay $83 GST on top of the $630( $550 + exchange ) price. Wish we had more of a heads up when we ordered... i've bought alot of things from the states and never had to pay GST when i picked them up. not complaining because in the end CED stills saved me over $200 but if you can get it for relatively the same price in Canada you may want to consider doing so. Thanks to CED for the bargain.

lol I think I would have been more surprised if you didn't have to pay duties.

Shouldn't be duty on that just tax.. NAFTA made in the US product. Should call up customs and get a return on that. I only had to pay GST

damn. lol i'll know for next time. ok my bad... it was just the GST but i guess in the end it would have been nice to know that it wasn't included in the exchange and price. obviously the guy at the post office had no idea what he was talking about when he told me it was duty... lol again still never had to pay anything like this for other orders from the states, they must have included GST in the price? .. i'm still stumped ah well.

Yeah, I guess I usually pay taxes not duties. I usually just assume I'll pay an extra 13%, that way if I don't have to it's all gravy

If ths box isn't marked as gift, you're going to get dinged. If they search the box (at random) you're going to get dinged $15 + tax or so.

it depends who they shipped it thru. i paid ups 24 bucks for shipping and 47 dollars for brokerage fees for a product that was worth 88 bucks... it matters who they ship it thru. try to stick with usps!!! they never usually have brokerage fees whereas UPS rapes u...

For future reference, it is the receiver's responsibility to know what their country's customs laws are before buying anything internationally. Never assume your duties and taxes are prepaid by the shipper, because every country could have different rates for every item you can think of.

If you never paid before, it was either a gift and / or you got lucky. If someone sends you something worth 500 bucks and it's marked as a 50 dollar gift, you don't want customs looking at it.

Anyway - enjoy the kit!
