what to ask for in a trifecta tune?
what to ask for in a trifecta tune?
Hi guys,
I found a dealer near me that's willing to tune my 09 cobalt SS/TC. I'm just wondering what I should ask for in my tune? If I don't specify, any idea what the standard tune's PSI will be - should I ask for something different? I'm looking for a fun daily driver. Oh, and it should be on 91 octane for my own sanity.
Thanks,
Mal.

ask for 22 psi, and select-a-tune, activated by either cruise control button or traction control when on competitive mode, ur choice. tell him all ur mods so they can be tuned for, and after u get it, take it for a spin, datalog with him, he will send it to vince, and ull get the adjusted tune for ur car back. do as much as needed till vince says its good. them u pretty much got a dyno tune. advice, buy the cable for urself, then all mods vince makes to ur tune are free and u can go back to stock if u need to take it in for warrenty

well u can buy the cable from trifecta website. trifecta performance i think u can google. and if u get a tuner to tune u before u get it, just ask him for the stock file on a flash drive, if u get the cable and do it urself, the software u get off the site to upload it also lets u save ur stock tune file. i got stock tune file, 21,22,24 psi tune files.

So I'll ask for 22psi (do people report that it's generally clutch-OK these days? Been forever since I followed up on tunes), tune engaged on competition mode, State my only mod as a catted down pipe, and that's about it! Are the stock torque management/traction settings in the Trifecta tune optimal? I'm hoping to have a little less baby-sitting than I have stock.
yes thats the cable, well worth the 200. u can change ur launch control rpm and junk with it to. ask vince about all the options avainible in tuneing. iv been on 22 psi for over a year, no clutch issues. u need to get urself k&n intake and get ride of all the plastic charge pipe and the intercooler and get all aluminum from zzp or treadstone. some people in cold weather or at the higher boost blow the plastic end tanks or charge pipe. intake makes the car sound so good, loud spool and blow off sound, and yes u can talk to vince about the torque managment. he can raise ur 1st gear psi limit or remove it, or add limit to any gear if u want. id leave it though cause on 22 psi u will not go anywhere if u make it more than 10 psi. people have tried to much tire spin. ur second gear will be usless as it is since on stock tires u spin all the way through 2nd gear, get good tires continental extreme summer dw are awesome, doesnt spin nearly as much in second. grabs good.

What intake specifically is recommended?
k & n is mostly recomended, i had hahn cold air, dont get cold air, pita, filter always gets wet and dirty. k&n scews the fuel trims the lest. although i never had issues with that. but it sounds and looks the best and in my opinion is setup for the car far better than the others. charge piping and ic dont really effect the tune much, wouldnt need to change it, but id get vince to look anyway, but they are considered miner changes to tune, so if u have the cable its free, u just email ur tune file and data log to him and he changes and sends it back, did i forget to mention, if u have the cable modifying ur tune is free cause u are considered a dealer? i dont think i mentioned it sorry lol. only major retuning costs money, and i havent encountered that yet, i think that would be something like tuning for e85 or something.

(yeah you didn't mention tune adjustments are free - that's a big deal for me if I plan on getting charge pipes/intake later on).

So you're talking about the K&N short ram, or the K&N filter? If I get the cable, then there's less reason to use a dealer... Well other than the convenience I guess, and small cost savings. Don't want to lead the guy on, so I'd still use him. Any logic in getting the cable later? I might run into trouble getting the tune adjusted though later since I wasn't responsible for the original one (he was)....
