Guy, you're just going to have to take the hit on this one if you want your car back in a fair amount of time. Whip out the credit card and pay it off later. You need your car for income, so get it done and good luck. Don't listen to all this legal mumbo-jumbo from a bunch of highschool e-lawyers. You can't afford to go that route, and you would lose anyway. Put it on the plastic!

You can give as much blame as you want to a "poor design"...but you knew when you got the car that it sits considerably lower than a normal Cobalt..and common sense would tell you that things like curbs and concrete parking spot stops might be potentially hazardous to your undercarriage...seriously...if it's about the money...file a claim on your insurance (assuming your deductible isn't crazy high)...but don't blame GM that's just rude.

well welcome to the club of owning a sporty car.

next time you go to buy one, bring a tape measure and be sure. or just learn to judge your distances and become a better driver and you wont have that issue

Some of you guys seriously need to grow up. If that piece on the intercooler broke off due to contact, you need to suck it up and deal with it yourself. It's not GM's fault. You do realize that they got this car airborne on the Ring, right? It didn't fall apart.

What if you had a real sports car like a Porsche, and hit something? I guarantee, it will cost you a lot more than this. Use it as a learning experience.

Helps if some read their car warranty that came with your car. It stats that GM is not at fault due to damage, racing, or any other abuse from the driver behind the wheel.

I dont see the friggin real problem here....... the intercooler is BROKEN/DAMAGED. it didnt fail because it was defective.

The dealer took apart the car to do diagnosis and found out/decide that it wasnt a warrantable claim so they didnt put it back together.......

This is how things work guys, if something isnt defective it doesnt get warrantied, car gets taken apart to diagnose and when its determined that it isnt covered under warranty work stops until payment arrangements are made.

Unethical dealer actions, give me a ******* break, they didnt do anything wrong its not like they wiretapped your phone.

Grow the **** up, pay the bill and stop running over curbs.

its like the saying you do the crime you do the time. its physical damage not a defective part.....which almost 95% of the time(unless you get faulty paint work like delamination or premature fading and such or bad assemblys) is caused from the driver. a dealers not going to warrenty something you screw up. its like at the body shop i work for....if we paint your bumper and you wreck it 24 hours later or something do you really think we would warrenty your little mishab? no. you would have to pay to get the work done over again.

and yet again ill back maven.......unethical actions? are you serious....

i agree its due to the driver but again like i stated before, plastic should have never found its way on to the intercooler.it shouldnt break at the first sight of a curb check, scrap, or little impact. now if your plow ur car into the curb or some **** like that then ok ur fukd and dont have a leg to stand on. that and if gm is stuck on the factory intercooler nowing they are having so many claims they should at least price the stocker for a hell of a lot cheaper.

some one should really get a poll going to see how big of an issue this is.

Oh jesus ******* christ! Would the 18 year old momma's boys please grow the **** up?

OP, do you expect everyone to go around wiping your ass for you the rest of your life? I mean c'mon!

And to all the people wanting to defraud GM by turning in bogus warranty claims, pat yourself on the back, you are just part of the reason our government had to bail them out. If EVERY Chevy owner turned in $400 worth of bogus warranty claims, imagine the amount of money coming out of Chevy for that?

This is almost worse than the guy getting his car taken back on the lemon law, after he tuned it. Pathetic.

ANY of you who switch your mods back for stock parts, hide your tunes, switch ECU's, or lie straight to the dealers face when he asks you about mods are no worse than what the OP wanted to do PERIOD!

Because I'm sure all you GM dealer nut huggers have lived your whole life on the straight and narrow and never took advantage of a situation in your life, give me a ******* break. So please take your holier than thou attitude and check yourself. Half of you would stab your best friend in the back if you thought it would put you ahead of the curve.

There has been more than one person on this forum and various others where the person had a legit claim and denied a warranty by GM, turn around is fair play.

Since I have never done that to the dealer, where should I go? Sucks that people take as much advantage of the system as they can.

Its the American way, all you have to do is look at the welfare system, the justice system, etc. Its all about who can screw who out of money.

Nobody really gives a **** what I have to say around here but:

This thread amuses me a bit... mostly because we had a local SS/SC owner couple years ago have the same thing happen. He broke an axle down the dragstrip and then towed it in Monday for the "failure". Just so happens one of the mechanics in the shop was down there racing his Fbody that night too and had a few things to say about it. All the burnt rubber in the wheel wells didnt help either.

I'm sure we're in the minority around here, but I agree... all the tune hiding, parts swapping, lying to dealers... fuckit. It used to be a matter of pride shelling out the stock motor on a car. Great excuse to build one I always say. I have some nice mangled up pistons and rods I use as talking points in my garage. "**** yes I blew that motor up, twice."

If any of these apply to you:

a.) Not in a financial position to repair the vehicle yourself OR pay someone when it breaks
b.) Do not know how to repair the vehicle when it breaks (see A also)
c.) Person who just wants other people to fix your error(s)

DO NOT modify your vehicle. That or make sure you live on a bus route.

Duramax diesel trucks run 30+ lbs of boost through plastic intercoolers, every GM (and most other makers) car and truck made to my knowledge has plastic radiators, we have plastic intercoolers, plastic intake manifolds, plastic valve covers, etc........GM knows what its doing when it designs these things. They dont however design them to run over ****. Its not like curbing a car is part of the safety standards.

DONT RUN **** OVER AND YOUR **** WONT BREAK

I care, and you are now my new most favorite member. LOL. I had so many people at work confused when I was so happy I blew the ringland last year.

How about instead of posting **** on Myspace, take it back to the dealer and complain. Dealer scratched my wheels last time I was there, took it back and explained what happened. He offered to buy me a new set of wheels, and I am pretty sure the guy that did it got fired. I settled for having the wheels powdercoated, because i wanted to do it anyway, and it would fix the issue on hand, without ******* the dealer.

Wow...this is like the 100000 thread about someone being stupid or careless, breaking something and then crying that the dealer wont fix it. Ya gotta pay to play. If you want to mod your car EXPECT something to fail so you will be ready to fix/upgrade it.
...or just watch out for curbs, they tend to be pretty hard...its like they are made out of concrete or something lol

Dude, grow up. You did it to yourself. Read your car manual on warranty what GM warranty doesn't cover. Therefore....

FIX YOUR DAMN INTERCOOLER AND MOVE ON!

lol yall act like these cars dont clear curbs you can fit your hand between the lip and a standard size curb... the only reason it broke off apparently is because that little plastic piece which you could probably break by tugging on it found its way cracked its not my fault for a stupid ass design.. and for those who say pay to play.. please

look at my ******* signature... as soon as i get my cobalt back its getting painted and sold anyways because i have a paid off S/C regal and my f-body won't have to deal with bitchy ass dealers or down time
