06 cobalt sssc No Cel codes :)

I have been in contact with 4 different people with all SSSC's all of which have got aftermarket cold air intake of varying brands, all of which are telling me they are getting no cel's (check engine light codes). Has anyone else heard anything about this? I have an 06 myself and if this is true I will immediatly get a coldair intake.

I did the airbox mod to my 06 several months ago and have not had any CEL problems.

I think that 06 calibration of the MAF is less tricky, that's why I think they produce a 10 WHP more on dynos.

I just had my motor replaced under warranty. I wonder if it is the 06 version or if they flashed it with the 06 specs?

I just reinstalled my cai and as soon as I put it in the light came back on. Then 448 miles later it went off. I will let you know if it stays off.

You know, thats a good question. Is it the 05 poeple gettings the codes and the 06 poeple not?

Someone should do a poll or something.

GM had a year with the Red Line to work out engine management issues before the 2005 came out. After the 2005 Red Line came out a flash was released via a tsb for the 2004s fixing a few things but nothing since the 2006 release.

I dunno, my 06 was pretty peppy stock. you can be driving in first gear, go up to 4000 RPM's slowly then floor it and you will spin wheels from a freaking roll. THis car scares me in a good way

yea, but my view of GM supporting the Redline, is very half assed. Seams like the Redline is GM's red headed step child from up north. I could see them being ******** towards the saturn guys, the Cobalt is their new flagship car (in an sports/econobox kinda way) and I would see them spending more attention on it then anything else (aka Sema, aka fixes for known problems, getting ready for staged upgrades and such.

The staged upgrades are for the Red Line as well because it's the same car except for the interior and exterior panels. Most people (including my insurance company) don't know that the Red Line is any different than a Quad Coupe and I like that. My point is that the ECU is running the same program and has the same engine (lsj) as the SS allowing the same mods. Psi Fi even developed your pulley kit on the Red Line. GM used its stepchild to get the bugs out of the software and we ended up with the same stuff as the SS. Even the 2004 Red Lines are dynoing at the same numbers as you guys are.

Yes, I can lose traction from a roll too and run a 14.5@97-98 in a bone stock 2004 that I got new for 16 grand

Ok guys I appreciate the thought but that was a lot of crappy replies. Please specify if you are having the cel codes, what year your car is. I could assume that you guys are driving 06's, but you know what they say about people who assume.......

Anyways yes it is a fact 06 cobalt ss/sc has 10 more hp than the 05 "sorry boiz sux to b u guys". When you think about it , I could understand 05's getting the cel and 06's not. I would just like to have confirmed proof from several different members.

While we are on the subject of the 06's I need to get one thing off my chest.... the rubber that came with these cars is CRAP!!! I have read two different reviews praising them but they are mediocre summer tires, and HORRIBLE winter tires. Worst all season tires I have ever used " I tend to only buy nice tires one of the most important parts of your car".

Anyways guys ignore my tire rant and please reply and let me know if your 06 cobalt ss/sc are throwing the cel codes.

from what ive heard some people are saying that the computer will adapt to any changes not sure if this is true or not. some people are saying they had a cel and then it went out so from logic i would say it true. also i read alot that if u dont disconect the battery when installing it you dont get the cel.

on the 06 they could have easily changed the code of the computer so any gm people around here who could fill us in maybe?

I have an 06 SS/SC with the K&N CAI. I didnt have a CEL for about the first 100 miles. Then it came back on. After a couple hunderd miles (estimate) it came back on. Now ever couple days its either on or off. Its been off for about a day now, but cant get too happy yet because like i said its so random when it turns off and on I have no clue. Just waiting for the day it shuts off and doesnt come back on.
All i know is that if the system does recalibrate itself, im not resetting the light or disconnecting the battery or anything cuz i want to give it time to re-tune it self (if that actually works)

Ok guys one more question I have seen several websites claiming to sell intake systems without any risk of throwing a cel code.... how could this be true if you all are having these problems? Someone please clarify.

I'm sure they were fully aware of the CEL situation from the experiences with the Redlines.
