2.8" Pulley Boys install

Well I put on the 2.8" pulley boys pulley today. Took like 40 minutes. I couldn't get the damn bolts to break loose from the pulley. The damn tech put effin loctite on all of them.... not fun. Did this happen with everyone?

Im still waiting for mine. Ordered on saturday night.

I was just messing around in my garage and noticed I only have one of the drivers from the stage 2 kit. Never got the other. How did you end up getting the bolts lose? I can't seem to get them to break.

you have to have somebody with strong effin hands grab the pulley and hold it, while you try to turn break the bolt loose

I installed my 2.8 tonight and it went ok. I took us a while to break the bolts lose but we found the best way to do it.

Take a crow bar and jam between sc pulley and tensioner pulley, have someone pull on the crow bar to hold the pulley from moving. Worked great afetr we figured it out.

I unplugged the negative from the battery and then took it around the block. I only saw 12.2 psi (up from 10.5) on the interceptor, but it was only around the block. It didn't feel any faster, but we shall see.

You should be seeing a lot more boostthan that with Stage 2 and the 2.8" pulley. 17-18psi is where you should be sitting at.

Quick question. With a stage 2 belt and 2.8 pulley do you need a belt tensioner to make sure that there is no slippage?

With stage II you will be fine, however without a smaller belt, you will get slipping, so you will need a new tensioner. Also, as far as the install, you can use (I believe) a 15mm wrench. to put tension on the belt and hold the pulley while you remove it. There a a number of threads on this, and how to do it. My plan is to have the pulleyboys pulley when I get stage II, and just put it in the box and keep the GM one at home, that way the tech installs it. (I know the techs, so they won't give a crap)

You shouldnt see any slip at all if you have the stage 2 belt.

If you did get slip, you could always pick up the new spacer for the blower that INTENSE is making. And then if you ever decide to go nitrous or meth/alky injection you'd just need to tap the plate and you're set. No worries about ruining your blower with spray

The stage II belt works fine (ie. no slippage) with the 2.8" pulley. Also, not everyone had trouble breaking their bolts loose ... thankfully the techs that installed mine actually looked at the torque specs in the instructions ... thanks again Berger.

6800 ft will kill your psi. Try it some time.

My bolts came of real easy. I changed the pulley two days after they installed stage 2, so maybe they didnt have time to settle. I dont have any slippage with the stg 2 belt also.

Oh, that definately makes sense! I retract my comment then. I've be up that high before and running almost killed me since I was used to sea level! I can only imagine what the car has to do for air at that point!

Yea, altitude sucks. Still, as it is my car is quick so at sea level it would be like a whole other animal.

I love going to sea level and running. I could run for hours, theres just so much air down there. lol

This sounds like a good mod but at 99 bucks its over priced of you ask me.
A pully ring from most other companys is onlt 69 bucks per ring.

You can get a used 2.8 ring and hub for 85 like I did and be alt to go with any size you want.

If this was 69 bucks I would have it.

later

I gave up and took my car back to the dealer where they broke both of the stage 2 bits and had to drill out 2 of the blue bolts to remove them (tore up the heads on the other 2 bolts). They argued that the bolts were supposed to be that tight and tried to charge me for the labor, it was a huge hassle.

I highly recommend spending the extra few $'s on the Pulley Boys replacement bolts if you buy the ring.
