I just ordered a 2.9" pulley from zzp to swap with the gm stage 2 pulley and was curious as to what i need to take the pulley off the hub so i can change the pulley to the 2.9. I'm not sure where the gm bolts bit is, i'm sure if i looked hard enough i could find it, but can i use anything else to take the bolts out? what tq. specs are there on the bolts or can i just snug them good with a 1/2 inch ratchet and do i need locktite? thanks!

You need the tool for the GMS2 bolts.

The torque specs are 16 ft/lbs for the bolts.

 

ok. i'll search around and see if i can find that bit. i searched and saw u said to leave the belt on losen then take the belt off swap pulleys put screws back in hand tighten then put belt back on and finish tightening i would presume?

 

I tightened mine before I put the belt back on. and aren't the GM bits just an inverted torx (E)? or something different?

one side of each star tip has a straight edge the other side of the star tip has kind of a curved edge.

you could scratch your hub if you tighten the pulley onto the hub while there is tension on the belt..

not to mention that these star bits could be tricky if you even begin to strip one of the bolt heads. and the only reason you could strip one of the bolt heads is to have too much tension pressing the pulley against the hub with the belt on.

I dunno why you would place belt, and then tighten the pulley. that's beyond me and quite honestly sounds like an overall terrible idea.

 

You are reading it all wrong.

Step 1: loosen pulley bolts.

Step 2: remove belt

Step 3: remove bolts & pulley

Step 4: place new pulley on hub and hand tighten bolts (hand tighten means tighten so they are nice and snug)

Step 5: place belt on new pulley

Step 6: torque bolts to spec

I have done more pulley swaps than I can count....

The way I listed it is the way GM recommends doing it as well.

Aren't the hubs diff from GM to zzp as well, unless I missed hoim saying he got the hub as well.

 

yea zzp sells 3 pulleys that will fit the gm hub. i'm getting custom tuned at our meet next saturday. gonna put the pulley on at the meet and datalog. if all is well i'll stick with the 42's. if i have to i'll bump up to 60s. i hate how 60s idle so i'm gonna go with 42s unless i absolutely have to go to 60s. Yes i know it is risky, but it can be done.

But the problem will be addressed if it occurs.

Properly setup 60's will idle just fine. There is no reason to risk running injectors without a reasonable factor of safety.

 

60's idle fine for me, it's all in the tune IMO

 

i'll probably be swapping my friend cause he's putting 80s on and getting an e tune the same day i'm getting the tune and i put his header on so he would sell me the 60s for 30 bucks plus the labor of putting the header on.

 

60s are must on a 2.9" so you are making a good choice. I did some test this spring and found out some pretty interesting things about the stock and GMS2 setup.

FYI. 60s can handle a 2.9" on E85.

95% IDC at 7k with an 11.8 AFR.



Most people would probably feel a little more comfortable with some bigger injectors but it is good to know that the 60s are not being maxed out.
