What is the difference between boring the stock TB (which people have done and only increases 2hp to the wheels) and buying the new one you guys sell? Wouldn't the inlet be the same because the TB is connected to the supercharger?

hey guys, this is my car.
ill tell you right now throttle response in like no other cobalt ive driven b4 with the stock charger.
its almost impossible to drive this thing slow since no matter what rpm you are in a slight touch of the gas the the car darts forward, first gear is that much more usless now lol.
stomp in any gear and it pulls alot harder than what it was liek b4 all the way to redline.
its a amazing mod to compliment all the other modifications i have to my car.
gonna log somemore this week and hopefully i can get on the dyno soon.

yes, the plan is to tune the car perfect on the street, then hit the dyno to see what kinda numbers she pulls.

The reason you made the spacer is becuase the tb plate was hitting the inlet of the s/c correct.

What about porting the inlet of the s/c would that make a difference or is the blade just to large? Is there anyway i could fab this to work with a stock intake?

I had one of these TBs connected to my K&N without a problem, just needed a new coupler.

$100 for a spacer? $89 with a group discount? That is just maddening, you could easily get a machine shop to do that for $40.

Ryan

Hmm, I did that already! I had a plate made for a little nozzle, I guess it will make the TB swap easier, but you would want to port the blower either way, you don't want a ridge right after the throttle plate.

Hello Folks,

Just to clarify a few things, the throttle body IS NOT from a Colorado.

I currently drive a 2.8L Colorado, and was the person who discovered this mod for distillion and Rebel Auto Worxs (seeing as I do work part time there).

This is a popular mod for the 2.8L Colorado's, so I did it myself to mine. After I took off my stock TB, I noticed a 2.0L Cobalt TB sitting on a table, and saw it was the same part number as my stock 2.8L Colorado TB.

So then I posed the question, if I can put this 4.2L TB on my Colly, will it work on a Balt, and low and behold, it work magnificently, with the help of the Throttle Body spacer. Without that, the mod on the Cobalt will not work at all.

You can find this throttle body on numerous vehicles:

COLORADO 04-05 Throttle Valve Assm; 3.5L
ENVOY 05 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
TRAILBLAZER 03-05 Throttle Valve Assm; (4.2L)
HUMMER H3 06
BRAVADA 03-04 Throttle Valve Assm; (4.2L)
ENVOY XL 03-05 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
ENVOY 03-04 Throttle Valve Assm; (4.2L)
IMPALA 06 Throttle Valve Assm; 5.3L
ISUZU ASCENDER 03-05 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
GRAND PRIX 05-06 Throttle Valve Assm; 5.3L
ENVOY XUV 04-05 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
TRAILBLAZER EXT 03-06 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
CANYON 04-05 Throttle Valve Assm; 3.5L
MONTE CARLO 06 Throttle Valve Assm; 5.3L
TRAILBLAZER 06 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
RAINIER 04-05 Throttle Valve Assm; 4.2L
SAAB 9-7X 05-06 6 cyl

I had originally recieved mine from a wreckers, off a GMC Envoy.

Also, here is a pic of the size difference. The Left being the stock 2.0L Cobalt and 2.8L Colorado TB,and the right being the TB from a 4.2L Inline 6 GM engine.

The GM part number for this throttle body is 12568580

And yes, you MUST change a parameter through HPTuners, or you will go in to Reduced Power Mode the second you give your new TB some throttle.

After distillion came to Rebel Auto Worxs on Saturday, and we did this mod, I realized how amazing it was from his reaction in his car. It gave ma a great sense of accomplishment, and was proud to have discovered a mod for my friends in the Cobalt Community.

The results were the same for me and my truck, amazing difference in the low end, peppy as all anything.

any idea on how much you can probably get one of these throttle bodies? new and old?

This seems like a fairly easy mod if you have a HPtuner.

It may be "easy", but it's useless without the special made spacer by Rebel Auto Worxs

Won't work mounted to the stock M62, adapter plate is required
