6.5 quarts for first oil change?
Had my car serviced today for the 1st time, did my first oil change at a Goodyear, I provided the oil, Mobil 1 synthetic. They charged for another quart though because they said it took 6.5 quarts total, guy gave me a discounted price though cause we talked cars, he had a GTO. Their system said six total was the usual, any particular reason why my car would take 6.5? It's a 2007 SS/SC. Thanks for any feedback.

The 2.0 SC does take 6 quarts according to the GM oil capacity chart. My bet is, if you check the oil after letting the car sit for about 15 minutes, it will be slightly overfull. Some places try to check the oil right after they shut the engine off which doesn't give the oil time to run back down to the oil pan. Check your owners manual for the proper way to check the oil.

Alldata pro says my LSJ takes 6.75..thats about what I do and its perfect. I don't see a problem, you put in as much as needed on the dipstick not what the computer says

yeah 6.5 was the magic number for me to kinda freaky for a little engine but hey oh well it was sad first time i went to get my oil changed i had to show them where the filter was and all that crap so they didnt charge me at all

the SS takes more due to the supercharger and quick revs, it aids in slightly better cooling and prevents oil starvation. thats why I am switching to the LSJ oil pan as part of my build. It holds more Oil.

to add to this thread, which shows that the least read book in the world is the owners manual...interestingly, tests show that the LE5 pan (2.4 et al) while it holds less oil, is better than the LSJ pan which holds more oil, for keeping the oil covering the oil pickup while hard cornering on the race track. The LSJ pan holds more oil so that the engine can pass euro extended drain interval requirements..
