93 octane or 87
93 octane or 87
I searched in two different forums and couldn't find what i was looking for. I am currently using 87 octane but in the owners manual it says if i use over 91 or 93 you get better acceleration, so i was wondering how true this is and will i notice a difference if i switch to higher octane? Also is it worth it gas millage wise?
91+ Ahhh
NO...
NO...

If you did put 87 octane, your ignition timing would retard to prevent knock but it will more than likely do it via knock retard.
Now, I highly doubt that you'd notice a difference if you're driving normal and light throttle. Higher throttle positions I'm sure your Knock Retard will be in full effect.

There's a reason there are high and low octane maps. Unless these are modified 87 causes no detrimental effects to the engine. I've now been running 87 in the winters for the last 3 years and never a problem and I always go back to the stock timing maps for winter. This last winter I ran the stage 2 timing maps and observed no difference when logging knock. Keep in mind there is less power to be had though.
