Getting HP tuned, tips?

Okay, so I'm going to get this pig-rich GM Stage 2 tune tweaked, and while it's getting done, I'm wondering about some other settings to change.

I figure I should get my fans programmed to come on sooner, turn off the rear O2 sensor to avoid cat inefficency CELs, maybe change the IC pump settings to turn on with the key in the ON position (but motor not running), but I'm not sure what else. Anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks!

Command 11.4 in the PE EQ table, and then have maf cruise and maf PE tuned to within 0-2% error. Then you can put it on a dyno and start tweaking your PE EQ for max power at each rpm all the way across, keeping in mind to still keep it safe. From there you can start advancing timing until you see knock, and dial those cells back until the knock goes away. you may have to recheck all tables as you go to ensure timing doesn't alter afr too much, etc. But thats how you are going to make the safest power. If you really want to squeeze more out of the engine without going to 60's or a smaller pulley, spray some meth, and you should be able to advance timing more without seeing more knock. That is a whole different animal tho.

Thanks for the reply! I'm actually not doing the tune myself - someone who knows what he's doing will be tuning it, because I don't know how to tune I'll print your advice though - it might still come in handy!

I'm mostly curious about just having other settings messed with while it's being tuned. What are your thoughts on limiting boost in first gear?

Edit - this is just a Stage 2/intake/catback car. (I know I'm not giong to gain huge amounts of power with the tune, I'd just like it "cleaned up".)

No prob. Don't take my post as the word of god, it is just a summary of the best way to go about things with our cars. Especially with what I have said about the timing, it is something to be especially cautious about, even tho you can safely advance as long as you get no knock. If you are just going for something "cleaned up" you really have no reason to **** around with timing.

In terms of first gear, it is really a personal preference. First gear can be a strange animal when launching, what with the gear ratio being so short, and many have found that reducing boost in different ways not only reduces tire spin and wheel hop, but can also translate into better 60 foot times at the track. It all really depends on what kind of traction mods you have, and how good you are on the pedal in first gear.

You *can* easily gain plenty of power with tuning, depending on how good your tuner is, and how liberal you want to be with changes. There is a way to go about it, and a way not to, and I can't easily go into this by just posting in a forum. There are plenty of things to be concerned about, as well as many safe areas that can be changed if you know what you are doing, or have someone with experience that can do it.

Feel free to ask any questions, If I don't know I can always direct you to someone on the site that may know better than me.
