How do I find what code it is throwing? I just did the mod and it's really nice and all, but my check engine light came on. The only thing I can think of is maybe the filter is not on tight engh......but I did the soft reset and still the CEL is on........PLEASE HELP!

Next all-important question - what size filter did you use that fit totally inside the air box? I'll probably leave the bottom off for part of the year but I want to put it back on in the winter, I really don't want salt and slush and all that garbage getting in there. If I could put the air box back together then I wouldn't have to take the filter completely off and go back to stock for winter.

i will drive up to pep boy's tomorrow and post the specific filter part # for you guys. check out my post about the possible reason for cel's being thrown using the k&n too
if you don't want to pay $24.99 form pep boy's i'll sell you the same filter for $60 lmao.... if you're willing to pay i'd be more than happy to charge you double, that way you ain't gotta worry about ******* up your airbox like the k&n filter requires
that **** is just dumb lol

Was about to do my "air box mod" at work today, took it all apart just to look how the air flows into the air box and intake...
ok I have a question...
Has anyone ever thought about removing the left fog light and run a tube
straight into the air box? Talk about ram air!!!
The stock box pulls air from hehind the left headlight up high, down into the box,
then turns 180 degrees though the restrictive filter then back up through the inlet tube
into the intake.
Maybe i need to design a new style airbox that pulls air from the left fog light hole and straight up into the intake.
hummmm
time to start designing.
any thoughts??

i've already thought about that but i don't want to **** with the fog light. the thing i was looking at is the universal weapon r ram-air kit that people use with their cougars.
using that and not necessarily hooking it up to the filter, but aiming it towards the filter would help out dramatically. the scoop would mount inside the hole for the radiator on the front end somewhere.
anyone else got any options for a cheap ram air system?

I too have done the "mod" and let me start off by saying HOLY SH@# what a diff....anyways unhooked my battery to reset PCM did the airbox, hooked it all back up, as soon as i turned it on CEL...unhooked battery again for about 5 min still same thing......Called ONstar and did a remote diagnostics and they told me it was a engine powertrain code? they directed me to one of their "specialists" and he told me to pretty much keep driving it, that it wasnt hurting a thing (but for legal reasons they state they cant tell me the exact code) ...After driving it awhile the light went out..... drove around for for a whole day and late last night back on it comes...gonna call onstar and see if its the same code or maybe another one that has been tripped by the aforementioned condition.. My question is how long do this cars take to "Re-learn" ive heard upwards of 14 days..How is that possible?, should i check my setup? or just keep driving it and see what happens (btw the car runs fine).....
EDIT...It was exceptionally cool last night really good air wonder if that had something to do with it...

thats exactly how you do it. i did it last night and still no CEL. before you do the mod just unhook the negative. after completed hook it back up and let it idle for a few minutes and you should be good to go
