use a dryflow filter whatever route you go, and you shouldnt have any CEL issues

ive had airbox mod and CAI, both with aem dryflow filters.
never had a cel. not even for a split second.

the airbox is extremely effective cheap mod.
and the difference between it and a CAI are neglegable, other than a CAI being slightly louder, and the CAI looks a little nicer.

I just did the airbox mod last weekend... I threw the check engine light (oil from PEP BOYS SPECTRE filter) 2 days later. CED (crate engine depot) looked it over, cleaned the MAF and gave me an updated REFLASH and I am very happy (didn't want to spend more $$$), and CED says the whole air box mod set up is fine (still have my warranty). No more check engine light and no codes!
I recommend getting the AEM dryflow filter if you go w/ the air box mod.

IMO...If I had the mods you have, I wouldn't think twice about getting the CAI

Blower= the supercharger

Block= Engine Block

I'd advise doing some home work on your ride, and modding before you start going all out.

300whp is gonnna be a hard road to go down

300 "crank" hp is do-able

no problem, we're all new at one time. 300whp is somthing that can happen, just not as easy as it is for other sportcompacts. Despite that, the power the cobalts make, still make the car a lot of fun to drive, and own

Take a look at the How To on the airbox mod as there are tons of opinions in it:

Airbox Mod

It really sounds like you get about the same out of the airbox mod and it is a little more stealth looking than have a full CAI. If you are worried at all about your warranty, I would do the airbox mod with a dryflo filter like many have suggested. Plus you a save a few bucks for other mods.

i think having a cai would be more affective AFTER a tune. thats why if you do get a cel the tune will straighten the map out.

The cels people are getting has nothing to do with the state of tune but it's due to oil getting on the maf from over oiling the filters. If you go dryflow you will not have a problem.

The stock block is more then capable of 300hp, the stock blower on the other hand is not.

It will make no difference. The stock tubing is identical to most CAIs and the inlet is in the fender so you draw in plenty of cool air. Opening up the air box by doing the mod allows for more air to get in and it also gives you more sound. From what I've seen doing a CAI is dropping IAT2s about 5-10 degrees on this car and with my airbox mod I'm getting a 7 degree drop in my IAT2s from stock so it looks to me like they are equally effective. Honestly I'd save the money and just do the airbox mod with an AEM dryflow.

Good Advice. I'm deff. going to look into this whole airbox mod thing!
But can someone tell me how this will affect my performance? and by how much?
