The airbox IS the "silencer" you are looking for. It is a big gawdy box w/ a snorkel reaching back up to the rear of the headlight. Just by doing the airbox mod and chopping it off and replacing the filter w/ the K&N e-1009 filter you will get alot more sound and comparible gains as if you had a full CAI. All for under $50.
The SS/SC uses no silencer/resonator on the airbox or inlet tube.
The OE air filer resricts most of the S/C noise, a K&N filter in the stock box is 98% as loud as a full CAI.
A full CAI is only louder since the S/C noise emitted into the fender well instead of out of the raised snorkel.

Clicky. Few of us were bored on a hot summer day, so we did some driving. My car is the 1st one with the KN filter, and the last one has an intake and exhaust. You can hear him coming from far away... (needless to say an intake is in my near future)

DO NOT just take off the cover. the stock filter is only pushed on, some people have had no problems, but others have had the filter fall off. do you want to suck unfiltered air into your motor? Didn't think so. So if your going to take off the cover, at least but a clamp on the filter to make sure it doesn't come off while driving.
