Exclamation For all you with Cam Gears...

How did you install them? I have recently been reading some of the 153MB of ecotec documents and just realized that I might have aligned mine incorrectly. When I put mine in I went to the center line and called it good....I installed mine with NBS and a TVS w/2.75". I use my scan gauge to see tuning progression....before I would hit 310HP with 15psi. After the install I was at 449HP with 23+psi (gauge maxed out then zero'd). The car spins instantly in 2nd at 40mph and catches around 60mph. c/gl was IIRC 1.47 and I was at 17* timing. Other mods in my garage. I've blown 2 engines already and really don't want to blow another one!!

Please stay on topic...as I want to learn and fix this.

I think he just wants to make sure that he installed his cam gears correctly.

I don't remember getting too much knock....I had some on my org. tune but that was at 20-22*. So that's why I lowered to 17*

Honestly, I'm not sure if you could install them improperly. They fit only one way against the end of the cam. The slot is off center so you can't put them on 180 degrees out of phase.

If they are bolted onto the cam and not crooked, they are installed correctly. You can mistime the chain if you don't line up colored links correctly though. Sounds like yours is setup correctly, my car does exactly the same as you describe above.

All marks were lined up exactly....but when when I tightened the 3 13mm bolts down<<<what's the correct position?

I know the are "installed properly" I'm really unsure if they are "adjusted" properly.

how do I know if the cams to gears were properly "timed"

It would be so much easier if i could show you......typing sucks

Should be a dial indicator that shows center and degreed increments for advancing and retarding each cam, a single painted line on the gear hub and a bunch of lines painted on the outside toothed ring.

If you want to preserve the ground LSA set both cam gear to the center position. Any adjustments made are in degrees that vary from the original ground LSA.

ground LSA?

Mine are directly in the center....so I guess They're done correctly. Now I just have to get a tune. I can't wait until I get to MD....seems like all the tuners are out that way

lobe slack adjuster ???

Are you talking about the GMPP adjustable cam gear set? Because if so, you really can't install them incorrectly. I supposed if you might be able to put them on backwards, but it would be obvious if you did that because you wouldn't be able to reach the adjustment bolts. I have that set on my engine.

Yea I have those....I was just worried about alignment. I know I installed the correctly. But after reading the build book and a bunch other documents and now this post I realise I aligned them correctly. I guess there is no way you can actually align them incorrectly.

Thanks for all the help guys
