B207R Swap?

Hi all,

I just wanted to get some more information about putting a B207R engine in a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC. I would like to know the pros and cons, and also if there is anything special you have to do to keep the supercharger setup? Just wanting to know this info for the future because I have a coolant loss problem in my car that I've been dealing with, and swapping the B207R in would be cheaper than trying to continue to track down this problem any further and just wind up spending thousands on head gasket replacements etc. Plus my car has 170k on it as of now as well. So everyone please chime in with your thoughts if you would.

Thanks,

CW

Did a quick google and this guy did it: Cobalt with B207R - SaabCentral Forums Looks like you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks, I have searched around already as well, but I haven't found the kind of information that I was wanting. What year motors will work? And no one tells what has to be done in order to adapt the supercharger setup.

hold on its not something you can just drop in, first the saab cams will not work IN cobalt's as the timing hex on the exhaust cam is not in the right spot, so you will never get it to start easily with that cam so you have to switch to the lsj cams look up bratboy's thread he actually did the swap, also the intake manifold studs from the saab are 6mm where as the lsj is 8mm you can use it as 6mm numerous 2.2 guys have, its just easier to strip the threads out. also make sure your actually getting the B207R because the B207E and B207L variants from saab have lower flowing intake ports on the head oh and i will add that the belt drive from the saab is 5 rib then you will have to use the lsj oil pan and shave down a pice on the head to clear the lsj belt drive setup then the sensors need to be swaped out for lsj sensors

Basically all this, only there is no difference in head shape/flow between the different B207 versions and the B207 oilpan is the same as LSJ:
- change turbo cams for LSJ version (+ cam gears)
- change intake mani threads for M8
- Change 5 rib pully for 6 rib LSJ
- Block the turbo oil return in B207 block
- Modify small part headcasting for LSJ pully drive
- Fit all the LSJ SC stuff + dipstick

Thanks, good information! So basically from what I'm hearing, considering all the changes one would have to make to the B207R, it would be easier and probably about the same price when it's all said and done just to buy another LSJ motor and put in it. I know I'd rather just pay the price for another LSJ motor, maybe the ZZP one, when/if it comes time to replace.

Thanks everyone for your contributions!
