Bad wheel bearing at 40k?!?

I guess anything is possible but a wheel bearing going bad at 40k? My question is my car thumps it's on the passenger side not sure if it's the front or back but is they anything else under there that could cause a wheel to thump while driving?

Sure you don't have a broken belt in the tire? Usually a wheel bearing will grumble and or sound like a air plane, while also the noise will come and go by steering left and right. to check for a loose wheel bearing jack it up and grab the wheel at 9 & 3 or 12 & 6 and try to wiggle it. This will also test tie rods so look why your their.

I guess would they get worse upon a turn tho? And is anything under there a wear item? Bearings struts control arms linkages? Etc. Anything?

my front passenger wheel bearing went at 44k. It had no play in it when i checked it but was grinding and making a whirring sound. I replaced both and it fixed the problem. I too thought it was a little soon for wheel bearings but that was definitely the problem.

My car is doing the same thing, I'm at 68K miles. i though it was my tires cause of spinning when I was stuck in the snow, but I rotated them 3 days ago and the noise stayed in the front driver's side wheel well. I'm almost positive its the wheel bearing, everything else looked normal when I rotated the tires (no worn rubber boots, bushings looked good, ect...)

When I bought my car last summer it had a bad wheel bearing at 80,000km(50,000m).
I made an offer contingent on the bearing being fixed which he accepted When he brought it in for GM to fix under warrantee they told him it was the tires and billed him for the inspection. They wouldn't replace the bearing until he put new tires on it.

Another thing I noticed is that when I'm on the highway with the window down or driving next to a barrier/another car, I hear a noise that sounds like marbles in a jar (not the exact sound, but the only sound I can think of that sounds close).
