blue bolt replacements

I'm changing out my pulley today (hopefully). I want to replace those GMS2 blue bolts with some allen head bolts. I believe the size is metric 8x16 but just wanna double check. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

when i went to play with mine, it was with large trepedation.
i had heard all the storys.....

I just about broke my knuckle when it let loose because i was pushing expecting major resistance lol.

Guess my dealership gave it the proper torque rating, instead of the stupid amounts other people have had to deal with.

PHEW.

Yea, mine was probably over 75ft/lbs.... no way it was under that.

it would be easier... but try the GM stage 2 socket, until you strip them

buy the hex-key bolts from nate

the torque needed for mine consisted of my left hand on my normal socket wrench, and my right hand holding the pully still and a little jerk.

very very easy. ive got it down to a 10 minute job now to pullyswap.

Man, I have a 18" breaker bar on my ratchet and I cannot break the stage 2 blue bolts loose. Im afraid if I keep trying its gonna strip or bust the socket.

I was thinking maybe these suckers are reverse threads! LOL

Obviously my dealer used damn loctite (probably red stuff) and torqued the hell out of them instead of instructions 15 ft/lbs

Yea definatly, but I can break a 100 ft/lbs bolt loose with a 18" breaker bar, but these wont break loose. I suspect red loctite was used that needs to be heated up and impact used to loosen. If I knew then what I know now I would have told the tech not to use loctite since it aint in the directions to do so.

Note: I just torched each bolt and tried to break each one free after heating the hell out of it with my torque wrench set at 125 ft/lbs and it didnt click at that, still no breaky loose.

Ok...update...

I got a impact gun in there and got a good shot on one of the bolts and it DID NOT break it loose. Im really surprised the bit hasnt broken or stripped a head with all this. The problem is the pulley cannot stay locked down without moving even with the impact on it.

My buddy who is the parts manager at the dealer where it was bought said any tampering with those blue bolts will void any engine warrranty claims. He said they look at the heads and can tell if someone has removed and put back on the bolts to change pullies.

So...I will give it one more shot tomorrow taking off the belt and applying torch till the bolt heads glow and if that doesnt work I have a 2.85 pulley for sale!

I had forgotten what red/green loctite removal torque was and its ALOT. Even though I heated the bolts I didnt get it hot enough because the belt was still on, so ill remove it next and nuke the bolts and that should do it.

268 High Strength Threadlocker Red or green removal is 360 ft/lbs torque! If its heated up to 450 degrees it should break free easily while hot with very little torque required.

There aint no way the bolts are coming loose even with an impact gun unless they are heated to 450 degrees and removed hot when loctite red/green is used.

UPDATE:

Well I have given up on breaking them loose!

Apparantly the tech used red or green loctite on them and even after heating them up with a 1700 degree torch for 30 seconds we still cannot break them free using a 18" breaker bar. You have to heat them up to melt the red/green loctite as with it dry they have a breakway torque of 400+ ft/lbs. I now suspect the tech using jb weld on the threads.

I am not pulling the S/C off to cut them off.

Anyone need a Nates 2.85 pulley local in San Francisco east bay as I have one that just went up for sale...

dude, werid, i got my 2.9 today from nate, and i went out to check how tight my bluebotls were, and acutally with a normal sized ratchet i got them off no sweat. i jusst popped the proper extesnion onto the ratchet and they came off easy,!! its prolly just cause im unusually strong, all 160lbs of me! hah
