turbo swap or you could go with a stage kit with exhaust and a header/dp combo

Yeah my man if you want performance first definitely do cosmetics last..

Few things you can do that wont damage your car on the stock M62..

CAI (whine + performance), I use Injen, ZZP makes a great product and K&N sounds great.

GM Stage 2, OTTP Stages, ZZP stages, or read up on other stages to see what you would like best. Hp gains anywhere from like 20-40+ from the stock 205hp.

Obviously with the stages, added Header/dp/cat back adds some hp and nice sound to the car.

For the best results I would start with a CAI then get a Stage X kit from a provider. Check out the vendors for more info or I'm sure there is a sticky somewhere... or the search button haha.

EDIT:
Also, if you want no wheel hop and some smoother shifting, my buddy helped me out with this as well.

Stage 2 OTT Rotated Trans Mounts (or Stage 1, but I recommend Stage 2)
http://www.ottperformance.com/store/...nts-49p892.htm

Shifter as well:
http://www.twmperformance.com/shorts...rt-shifter.htm

You get a little vibrations with the mounts when they are first installed and then about after 800 - 1000 miles they get fully broken in and the vibes go away a bit. It's seriously a night an day difference. The reason why I recommended a shifter is because when I did my trans mounts I installed a TWM short shifter as well and all I can say is the quality was unbelievable. Seriously, I had gotten used to the stock shifter and overall feel of the car but when I installed this TWM shifter and the Trans mounts, it literally felt like I was driving a different car. ZERO wheel hop + perfect, precise, shorter shifts = Sex. It was a very solid car. So I would recommend those. Don't go cheap with the trans mounts or the shifter (if you plan to get one).

A lot of people go with Turbo Tech Racing STOP Trans mounts too:
http://www.turbotechracing.com/produ...78&idcategory=

But the thing is if you look at the materials used with the OTT Performance mounts they use a rubber mount, The TTR STOP mounts are poly urethane. I'm not sure if you've heard much but any poly urethane mounts create a LOT of vibrations. They do go down quite a bit too after the initial break in but my experience with them is honestly for a DD you might not want them. For a track car, go for it.
