Boost bypass valve solenoid plug?

A friend of mine just installed a AEM intake on his 06 Ion redline and he came over to my shop because he was having a pretty serious looking issue after the install. He installed the intake as per the directions from AEM but he was only making no more than 2 lbs of boost at WOT, needless to say he was freaking out. I did a quick visual inspection of the intake and surrounding sensors he needed to move to install the intake and tried to read his pcm for DTC's and found nothing. he had normal idle, no surging, and no check engine light. I found the problem to be that somehow he unplugged the electrical connector that plugs into the solenoid for the boost bypass valve. we reconnected the sensor, turned on the car, and all was well and reading good boost at WOT.

here's an interesting question to ponder....
Since there were no really obvious bad side effects (perhaps watching vitals on a computer would tell otherwise) besides making no more that 2lbs of boost, would someone with an LSJ be able to unplug that during incliment weather (i.e. snow) and safely cut power and have better control over traction in these cars?

Would someone with the right tools be interested in investigating this? I know this may be a shot in the dark or maybe something usefull. You never know.

Two things:
1. SS/SC tires suck ass in the winter!!
2. If you don't step on the the gas so hard you won't build boost.

1. I have snow tires in a narrower size on smaller rims.
2. I just wanted to see if someone could try this and log it to see what the computer is doing when this is unplugged.

Old thread I know!!! But I am interested to know as well if this is safe! How I see this is when you unplug the solenoid valve, the bypass valve will always be opened so the engine is never supposed to have any boost under hard acceleration or at WOT.

Can some people comment on this?

I can do alog on my 2.4 because I don't have that solenoid. It's only boosting 2lbs as of right now...will that help you at all?

well, you could...

the reason that it works the way that it does is so that in the event of a failure, it still stick "open" as opposed to boosting the motor into pieces.

i don't see any reason that you couldn't leave it that way, other than the fact that the car would be pig slow and probably corrode the connectors for the valve.
