Bye bye to the SS/SC???

I was just talking to Dave over at crate engine depot, and he was telling me that in 2008 Chevy is doing away with the SC cobalt. Anyone else hear word of this? Personally, I think it's great for the value of our vehicles, but I wonder what it will mean for future aftermarket parts. Luckily there's already a wealth of products available, covering most anything we would want to do to our vehicles, but I wonder if it could cause companies like Hahn to scrap projects already in the works, such as the Twincharger kit.

I was thinking this too, and it brought me to Buick GN's. I would say that if they don't come out with a turbo one in the future that the aftermarket will still be there. But I'm thinking if they do come out with a TC then the aftermarket will probably phase out with us and lean towards the newer "better" ones. It's that way with the buicks like I mentioned. The hot air buicks (84-85) were plenty of car for their time and things looked promising for them. Then came out the intercooled cars (86-87) and everyone went their way. So many years later the intercooled cars have soooo many parts for them while the hot airs have to make everything for themselves. I know as I've owned an 84 and an 87. So like I said it's been so many years later with such a limited production car (86-87's) and they still have a strong aftermarket. Lets just hope we don't get "replaced".

well, since you're kinda new, we'll let it slide!

but this topic has been talked about a bajillion times... probably more than a bajilion... at this point it's all speculation... the "proof" the people posted was the listing of the engine that's in the pontiac solstice... that's proof of nothing more than the solstice will be made next year...

yes it is true that they are not producing a ss/sc in 08. Let me find the link http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/dom...D=5143&type=0# it is not speculation there is right there from the GM website

power of cobaltss.net

i guarantee if everyone like electronicly signed something from this site alone and sent it to GM they wouldnt kill it, i just dont think they realize what kind of demand is out there. just imagine the people who arent on this site. And the people who want the SS. i mean its the only SS sporty type chevy even has, why get off the wagon so soon?

It's not being killed. It will be back at a later date. Hopefully as a turbo version.
GM is not that silly to kill off the Cobalt, especially when it's been a proven performance car time and time again. I just believe that a turbo version is well on the way. It just makes sense if you think about it. Let's just keep an ear and eye open as to what's coming in the future.

Here is an idea, it says for the available 08 models a "sport coupe" I wonder if that will have the same engine as the SS/NA as a 2.4... i mean that is a possibility, which would mean more parts for my car!!! lol

i hate to say this guys, but the turbo cobalt will really hurt the resale value of our cars, not help them. As far as the tunning market is concerned, turbos are the way to go. Our cars wont be remembered as something special that was only around for 3 years, they will be remembered as GMs mistake into the sport compact. I mean lets face it, if gm didnt think it was a mistake, they wouldnt be canceling the engine. We will be the LT1 to the LS1.

Looks like a "model name" deletion thing ... RPO codes show the LSJ still available though... (along with G85)

SS/SC replaced by "Sport Coupe" ?
