Ca Stage 6
Ca Stage 6
I get the feeling this had been posted before but I wasn't able to find it in the search so here goes:
As many of you may have already noticed, Cobalt Addiction is offering their own stage kits--all the way up to Stage 6. They are boasting that this Stage 6 offers an increase in HP to around 290hp!
Right now my flash player doesn't want to work so I can't view the website and throw out some details here.
I would like to hear some opinions about CA's stage kits! You can find them at www.cobalt-addiction.com
Thanks,
Havoc

Stage #6: 2.5 ZZP Interchangeable Pulley system , 2 step colder ngk IRIDIUM spark plugs , GM shortened belt , ZZP Adjustable Tensioner , 60# Siemens Injectors , Injector Wiring Harness, CA Methenol Kit , CA Heat Exchanger Kit, CA Dual Pass Intercooler Plate, CA nitrous controller , Stage #6 Retune ... Est. 90 Hp / 100 TQ over stock - 21psi boost - Higher yield with nitrous installed
Thinking about it myself when I get back from overseas, but not doing the N2O controller and spray system going to sub in a cryo unit, rather do CO2 then N2O.
Anyone know if the HP, TQ return includes the upgrade to a 3in intake and 3in exhaust this requires?

I"m running the stg 6 setup right now... minus the nitrous... with losing my meth (line blew) I still put down 281 whp at 6300 rpm (pulled all timing out after that) but i bet I can hit at least 295-300 whp next time out... I"m not gonna mention the TQ number, cause of loss of timing it was pretty low.. (only 250 wtq) , but I should be heading back in a week or so to redyno with everythin working should be in the ballpark of @300 whp and 275 wtq... I"ll post up the dyno sheet when I do go back

What does the methenol do anyway? Is it a replacement substance for the conventional water-to-air intercooler?
Is this kit the peak of Cobalt tuning? Is it worth the price? Is there an alternative to getting something different that can provide just as much HP (without getting a new car/engine lol)?
I'm detracted from actually buying it right now; it would be wise to make use of that GM warranty while it lasts.
I see in your sig u got someone from CA to help u install the kit. Lucky lol. How long did it take to install? Was it hard?

What GM warranty?
The meth kit uses a methanol/water mixture to help cool the Intake Air Temps down for more boost and less likelyhood of detonation. It uses your windshield washer tank as the source and you need to have a certain mixture of washer fluid or pure methanol with water for this to be effective. Its a good idea for very high boost applications as teh water will absorb heat and the methanol will essentially create a higher octane fuel.
Oh and his kit as basically been isntalled peice by peice so there is no real time frame with which we can gauge how long that would take. He'sbasically had the test car for all this stuff that they have started selling and or designing on their own.
true,,,, I did install myself though... it really isn't that hard/long to do... as long as you have some skills in automotive... longest part probably is wiring the meth kit and installing the dual pass setup as the bolts are a PITA to get too with the manifold on the car.. and due to time contraints... thats how I did it...
meth kit by far is a great investment... I run basically a racegas/track tune on the street.. so far no issues andits been on the car for a while now...
and the gm powertrain warranty is BS.... but somehow they do cover engines/// but nothing drivetrain related... just claim abuse and send you on your way

I"d def go with axles if you plan on racing... I am still running a stock motor, head gasket... and pistons (not for long though).. and I am still on my original stock clutch and no slippage as of yet (over 13,000 miles so far) and I"ve been modded since 3,000 miles... so I guess its just how you drive it... mine is my daily driver.. I drive to and from manhattan everyday.. avg btwn 28-29 mpg per week, and so far all I broke wasmy axles at a very very very well prepped track...
but of course with any car... you drive it like an idiot all the time ... of course something is gonna break..
but reccomended accesories would def be a Wide band gauge and an aeroforce... as I"ve stated many many times. it is very important to monitor everything on you car when pushing it to these levels...

Oh, I have searched and look at sevaral wide band set ups. Just wondering what you were running cause that CA stage 6 sounds like a sweet set up to get later on when I get some more miles on my car.
its a pretty complete package.... and the power in phenominal.... now if I could only get the thing down the track and back to the dyno... I'll have some real good numbers for you guys
