hey guys, well heres my problem my car wont start towed it to a mechanic and couldnt get a reading said the cars computer isnt sending a reading at all. so i towed it home disconnected the battery waited a couple of mins and it started right away. but it shut off by it self. any ideas of what it could be???

 

What where you doing before it wouldn't start?

 

i was actually driving down the highway and it sputter and then completly shut off on me and it wouldnt start back up again

 

What kinda of scanner you use on it?

 

i dont know what scanner the mechanic used but he said the cars computer isnt sending a signal back but wen i took it home i disconnected the battery and reconnected it it started up fine but for 5mins and then the shut off on me

 

Well if the cigerret lighter fuse is popped the obd2 port won't work.

 

lol thats what my neighbor told me but i couldnt find that fuse i found the ecm and tcm or something like that and the fuse was fine but were is the cigerret lighter fuse at i couldnt find it ill be back ima look for it hopefully ill find it

 

alright i found the fuse and the fuse is good so then my car computer might be trashed ??

 

charge the battery check the alternator to see if its working

 

I doubt its the alternator if it jus went out while you were cruisin the highway an then the car starts up an runs for a lil bit...It might have somethin to do with the comp.. I dunno.. Im not that technical wit it lol I had the same kinda problem wit my old car last winter. I switched out my battery an I was good tho, but it might be more than yer battery

 

well smart guy if the alternator isent working then its running off the battery then when the battery dies so does the car disconect battery let it set then reconnect dpending on hw dead and how well it retop charged itself the car would run for a few minutes if the car isent getting enough power **** wont work

 

well i kinda doubt its the alternater and i know its def not the battery cause i have 2 of them a kinetik and a yellow top but even if the alternator is going bad what would be the cause of not getting a reading of the cars computer

 

bump any help on what it could be im starting to think its the cars comp and ima have to replace it but that seems weird and to early for me to have to this to the car any more suggestions on what it could be

Sounds like you lost charge, and your battery breathed its last breath. I bet it wasn't charging. Check your charging circuit.
Put a charger on it. See if you get a reading after an hour or so without starting.
