CEL with Injen Intake!

WTF! This thing is not supposed to throw a 0171! (lean code) IM actually pretty dissapointed and have lost respect for Injen, I had an injen on my last car and it threw a code, now it does on this car. The code will come on every other day or once a day. I went about 100 miles of no CEL, now all of a sudden it pops up all the time! im pretty dissapointed, and Im considering taking it off, and maybe selling it, The fitment is the worst ever.

My main question is i keep clearing the code with my interceptor, is this bad for the car, will it hurt it if i keep clearing it? How do i get rid of the code.

Zinner, if your reading could you chime in, i see you got rid of your CEL, what did you use??????

you have many options with the cel. you could do what you said (which i dont have the liberty of) using the scan gauge to clear it. also heard that plugs may work and the best thing is the MAFT. it tricks the computer in to thinking it is running correctly. other than that im just waiting for the stage kits to come out so i can get rid of the CEL

I just installed (or should I say rigged to make fit) my Injen a couple days ago. No CEL yet, but I'm right at about 100 miles now, got my fingers crossed. Some people on here say they had no fitment issues, I don't see how. Either it's pushing the bumper or the wheel well liner out, I don't call that fitting. I spent about 5 hours messing with it before I rigged a bracket that made it push on the bumper only a little, but it pushes on the liner enough that I can't get a couple of the screws back in. I don't look forward to fighting with all this again when the filter needs cleaned.

Thats so weird, It fits perfectly fine on my 2.2. I know its completely different routing, but i didn't think there would be that much of change in quality of the intake. Mine does also throw a CEL every once in awhile but I havent had the resources to find out exactly what the CEL is on for yet

Your CEL is caused by the P0171 code, which says the air fuel ratio is leaner than stock.

Stock Cobalt SS has been set too rich from the factory, so yor CEL isn't scary, until you do a supercharger pulley swap.

Have you tried spraying a little brake/contact cleaner on your MAF?

I got a little air filter oil on my MAF from my Injen and it threw a P0171.

Since I cleaned it, it hasn't come back. It's certainly worth a try.

I just installed mine today. I've read up on the whole thing from problems that people have been experiencing.

First, is how it hits the bumper. The fix I read on the forum was to place the rubber spacer on the outside of the bracket to hold it on instead of having the bracket mount to it. This was impossible on mine since the intake wouldn't even go into the elbow before the supercharger. How I fixed it was I took the end of the bracket and straightened out the end part. Then at the end, I bent about 1/2" of it back to the original angle and used only the nut to hold it on. This resulted in the filter being almost an inch from hitting the bumper.

Second is where it rubs on the side of the brace in the engine comp and where it fits through the hole above the filter compartment. Some people put foam/weatherstripping to prevent it from happening. Which I will eventually do....however, those edges are somewhat sharp and will eventually wear through, not to mention put strain on the whole assembly. With the engine flexing (Don't have the Ingalls), it will eventually rub through. To fix it permentally, I bent the metal down with a hammer and then took some pliers to fold it over. You really can't see it, so who cares what it looks like. I easily have over 1/2 clearance on all sides and in some places much more.

Third, is how people worry about water getting in the intake. I purchased an Injen Hydroshield to aid in preventing that. However, I am still waiting for it to come in from Turbo Tech Racing since 22 Dec 06. In the meantime, I couldn't keep staring at my intake on the living room floor. So, one of my buddies said on his GTO forum, they mentioned covering it up with pantyhose. It basically does the same thing as the Hydroshield, so I gave that a try...only cost $1.28 for 2 pair. I put black ones on it and it looks sharp.

Hope this helps. I'll try and get some pics of it this weekend before I put the foam on.

I never got a CEL, I loved the injen. The best intake I have ever owned. If I were you I would make sure its installed correctly and disconnect your negative battery for at least 20mins. I also have had no fitment issies with the second gen injen intake. I created a rubber braket were it could rub on the sharp spot behind the headlight. Good luck.

no fitment issues with mine at all.
no cels either.
i used to have the jbp intake and the only way it wasnt gonna hit the peice of metal is when i shaved a bit off since it was digging a whole through the intake, with the injen i have more clearance and less hassels than i did with the previous intake, ex, buldging fender liner, if i had the jbp intake on for much longer i woulda burned a hole right through it, rubbing all over the place lol ect ect.
The revised injen intakes are awesome and i have no complaints.
I have been driving all winter with it with no hydro shield and not one issue
