Chevy Put Wrong Oil In My Car!!!

I think the quick lube at the Chevrolet dealership put the wrong oil in my car. I hear people saying how they pay $80 for an oil change when I only paid $30. Afterwards I felt a power loss in my car, and when I changed the oil just recently it was completely black. Would putting the wrong oil in my car cause a power loss? I put the synthetic back into it but I don't think that's what the dealership put in it when I paid $30. Are there any long term affects of this or will it eventually clean out and maybe go back to normal?

It didn't really occur to me until I changed my oil about a week ago. Is there any way to get compensation for this. Also I don't think I have the old oil any more.

well "chevy" didnt put conventional oil in your car. The dealership you brought your car to did. You should be ok if they did tho. If you are concerned go back to the dealer show em your receipt and ask. Maybe they'll hook you up with a mobil 1 oil change if they didnt, just show em your oil cap.

It can, especially when switching between synthetic and dino-oil.

Bring it back to the dealer with receipts, they *should* compensate for it. Key word there is should, of course. Good luck.

This again is exactly why an oil change should be done by the owner and not some dufus brained min wage lube tech (of course an owner can be dufus brained also), but usually not with their own self buying the "RIGHT" oil.

Only reason an owner wouldn't be able to is if the weather wasn't good, or no place to actually do it.

They paid $80 cause they probably got Full Synthetic Oil and not conventional. The color and thickness has more to do with how long you drove the car with the oil.

But remember, anything can effect power. Was it cooler outside then than it is now? Did you change any parts?

It could be anything...even in your head.

Just go back and ask them what they put in. You aren't going to lose any performance from using conventional oil.
