Clutch

So there is a chance my clutch is going out. It slipped tonight at the track really really bad, not once but twice. I drove it home and parked it for a couple hours. I am going outside now to drive it to see if it can hold a 2nd gear pull.

Anyways moral of the story if I need a new clutch, what do you guys recommend on the CHEAP side. I am really hurting for money nowadays so the cheaper the better.

Does anyone know what a place would "roughly" charge to change a clutch out on our cars?

My suggestion is actually what I just got done doing.. Buy an Exedy Hypersingle and do the install yourself. I did it with the car on jackstands on a garage floor.

Jesus is it really that easy? No special tools required?

I actually don't think its the clutch. I'm not sure what it is but this is the problem.

I just went for a drive and while coasting in gear there is a whining sound, almost as if i were under slight boost and could hear the supercharger. There is also a burning smell like burning rubber, as if the supercharger pulley belt or one of the other belts was rubbing up against something.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause a whine while accelerating even under slight throttle. The higher the rpms are the louder the noise is. Something is causing a burnt clutch smell from just drive under normal conditions.

Any ideas?

edit: god i wish i had a flash light right now.

Its not the easiest thing I have done in the world. But it was my first clutch job. The only real "specialty" tools i needed were the 30mm socket for the axle nuts, and the reverse torx(I guess thats what you call them) for the bolts that held the pressure plate on. I ended up stripping two of those off and decided to take a cutting disc and cut the pressure plate off of the flywheel

*edit, here is a pic to show you what i am talking about
