Clutch gone, What to do?
My clutch is destroyed. I mean it still works but it is sooooo hard to push down and it has to be mashed all the way to the ground. I have about 13000 on the car so i know ive made it farther then alot of us.
Part of my problem was i taught a few people how to drive on my car, and let a few females drive my car on more then one occassion.
I doubt taking it to the dealer will have it fixed under warranty. I wish....
But any ways whats a good aftermarket clutch, there was a gap in time when i wasnt really reading these forums ( due to lack of funds and i would get depressed seeing everyone's car getting stuff and mine staying the same) And now if seen some comments about the spec clutch being "no good" some elightenment on this would be greatly appreciated. And if we arent able to use the spec clutch what after market options do I/we have?
Without a new clutch it doesnt even make sense to add any more power adders to the vehicle so i really need to get this taken car of. If possible does anyone know a way the dealer can fix it ( i know it would just go out again but atleast it would be a temp. fix) Or is anyone selling an aftermarket one.
Also if some of the more technical inclined guys could shed light on what could happen if i continue to drive my car with this worn out clutch, what risks am i running.
Thanks in advance.

Exedy clutch and flywheel kit is what I would buy. I know someone on here has to have on installed by now. Clutchmasters worked the kinks out of their setup finally after three revisions and that is what I'm using now. Centerforce may also have released the dual friction setup they were testing quite awhile ago. I would stay away from Spec though.

Is the clutch slipping really bad ( clutch plate worn out= new clutch), or is it just really hard to push down ( either pressure plate problem or hydraluic system problem). If it is a hydraluic problem that needs to be fixed and buying a clutch won't help. Having a worn out clutch that is slipping should not have any affect on the feel of the clutch pedal. From the way you described it, it sounds like you have other problems.

Check out dezod's website, exedy makes the best clutch and flywheel out imo for the cobalt, it is used in the cobalt time attack car. I had spec on my car and took it out.

I've seen them break and/or loose detent/retention allowing the shaft to engage too far into the pedal, reducing master cyl travel/stroke
It's a bit of a PITA to get access to though...

Where in fla are you. I would try to talk to someone that is technically inclined and maybee take it to a transmission shop before GM. They should be able to tell you what is wrong. The only reason why you would need to get a clutch is if it is slipping. To get a good aftermarket clutch you are looking at 550-600 just for the clutch and not the install. I would guess around 300 for the install. If you do need a clutch the transmission shop would probably do it cheeper than GM. But hopefully it is something simple.

i have a spec 2+ 2.6 60lbers and a decent tune with new piston i just hit about 500 miles of driving the other day i dropped it at 4k and no problems
and just to keep people from sayying i abuse my car i wanted to test the ****** i would never do that without reason

tcolli,
I've replaced the clutch three times due to the CM fiasco. I believe the linkage or pin you speak of would be inside the car under the dash from your description. Under the fuse box is just the hydraulic line that runs from the resivour to the aluminum block on the trans, and then to the slave cylinder. There is a retaining clip in that, but no pin.
Fl,
My clutch went at 7000-8000 miles. The stock setup blows, and obviously you have figured that out. I would get the Exedy kit and be done with it all. It will still be streetable as it's not a 4-puck, pressure will increase some, and you will have to relearn it's engagement point. These changes were more than welcome in my car with my CM FX300because they make driving it feel so much better. If Exedy had their kit out when I needed a clutch, I would have bought it on the spot no questions asked.
