Cobalt Died Help !!!

Ok so I just got off work 10 mins ago.... I pulled out from a light and went to switch to second and it felt like I hit a brick wall... I can only get up to speed if I go very slowly and my rpm guage is not working now..... I have no idea wtf just happennend. Why would my rpm guage stop working and why did my car bog like that and now it will not drive properly. It feels like I have 50 hp under there all of a sudden. I thought maybe I hit limp mode but my DIC says nothing.... if this sounds like something you have expierienced let me know...

There is no distributor cap or wires.

Only thing I can think is to shut the car off for a few and try restarting it. I know that's not the problem but it might allow you to at least get home or the dealership.

Before I got my car I asked the fleet manager about an alarm. He said stay away from the electrical system. Then he told me a story...a customer had an aftermarket stereo system installed and after that he could not get into second (auto trans). It was traced to a circuit being over loaded by the stereo and the computer thinking this was a potential problem, went into a safety mode and would not allow the trans. to go into second. The stereo was installed correctly but the computer could not compensate.

The reason I say this is because I saw the neon ground effects in your sig. Maybe???? the same sort of idea is going on with your car???

Just throwing a suggestion out. It is most likely something else but who the hell knows...

Yep, I experienced the SAME EXACT thing with around 2k miles on my car. Just shut it off and let it cool completely off. Everything should come back to normal after cool down. I have no clue why they do this.

My car has never done this since. It now has 18k miles on it.....

That wouldn't be the same problem on his because the manual transmission is not electronically controlled.

WEIRD isn't it?? When I took mine into the dealer after it did it they blamed it on the gas I was running..... Thats possibly it, but since I refuse to change gas stations and have filled up countless times there since I doubt it was the gas.

Also, the dealer could not find anything wrong with the car... No codes, no nothing...

At least you know what to do if it ever does it again. Be easy on the wheel hop. Thats the only thing I have watched since it did it....

*yawn*

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/problems-service-maintenance-69/my-red-ss-sc-went-service-today-15340/

this happened to me too, the car goes into limp mode without saying engine power reduced and will start running like poop, the exhaust sounds like it's dying and you can't get passed 60mph unless you feel like waiting and none of the gauges registered. After a hard run my car did this and found out my thermostat failed, it actually was the computer thinking it failed. They had to reflash the computers way of thinking with the thermostat. it's a known problem. A reflash is available for this.

After that no issues since. If you notice when you take it in they can pull the code on the computer when it goes into limp mode or even several days after. My header was cherry red when I pulled over. check yours too the next time you pull over.

I had the same prob with my redline, it went into limp mode after a hard run. Usually due to intake codes, alot of ppl get this when they have mods done... After i installed my pulley it happened to me all the time, then i just stopped?? lol

Same happened to me, I limped to the dealer with the idle going all loopy and nearly stalling at red lights. When I got to the dealer it bogged and I stalled rolling right into the service bay. When they started it back up, everything was fine and they said they couldn't find any codes either. I was just pulling out of my driveway to go on a 7 hour trip to Atlanta when this all started up. It didn't reassure me any when they said nothing was wrong and I still had over 600 miles left to drive that same day.

Hasn't happened again since (knock on wood), almost 20k miles now.

Yikes, that was something else. I wish I would have gotten a picture of that.

Its your crankshaft position sensor, I posted a long time ago regarding this. Mine did the same thing. I know others had the same problem. GM will probably have a recall or tsb regarding this issue.

had something like this happen. i was slowing down for a stop sign. took it out of gear to let it roll. about 4 feet from it the whole car just died. felt like the motor fell out it stopped so fast. pushed it to the side. started running kinda hot. turned on the ac. (turns on the fans) let it sit and cool down. started it back up. hasn't done it yet.
