Cobalt without belt?

Is there anything going to happen if I remove my belt and bump start my car for about 15 seconds to make 100% damn sure it's my supercharger making all the noise and not the valvetrain before I get a new one?

You would be okay, other than you would have no alternator, you might throw some codes, but for just a minute it'd be okay.

But why not do a logical method and find a stethoscope or put a screw driver tip on the supercharger and put your ear up to the handle.

Cool,

I can clear whatever codes come up with my reader. I used a stetchescope but there is one last noise that seems to be resonating through in different places and I can't pinpoint exactly where it is so I just want to see if it is in my SC or not. I just want my car to run right again .

It won't hurt. I'm putting up a vid in that other thread showing how to get that belt off if you want to take a look.

I will, I tried it and kept unscrewing that bolt. I'll check it out.

The angle of your wratchet makes a difference too. You want to make sure you're anywhere from the 10 o'clock to 12 o'clock position, so you're pushing down on it some. If that doesn't work, snug it up good and tight, then try again.

FWIW, I removed the belt (which is damaged and I need a new one now... ) and started her up. My god it ran great. The best sound I've heard all day. No rocks in a jar. Can't wait for my new SC to show up on my doorstep to put it on.

Oh also, I have idle bouncing problems and it idled the best it ever has without the belt on? What? Does that make sense?

You didn't buy a new SC because of a bad coupler did you?..

I'm glad we all assume I'm an idiot haha.

It was the bearings in the supercharger, they got damaged by dealer. Long story short they told me to hit the road and I don't have an available Eaton rebuild center or care to spend $100+ Shipping each way across the border. Narrowed down with stetchescope, belt proved it also. Tried two (2!) new couplers to make sure. Didn't change a bit. Sound is getting progressively worse.

How hard are those bearings to change? I've never torn into an M62, or any supercharger for that matter, so I'm a bit clueless in that department.

From what I gathered a pain in the butt, and it wasn't worth it to me. There isn't anything really complicated inside the SC as far as moving parts. You need to use a special process with fluid to get the rear bearings out of the housing.

it's not an impossible job for the home grown mechanic to rebuild his/her supercharger, you'll need a snap on tools race remover slightly modified to get that aforementioned bearing out
