if your going to force the cams to make power past where they were designed to I suggest you learn how to read the plugs and set the timing accordingly to what the plug is showing

Never forced the car to do anything. People act like the car goes back to 100whp instantly after you've hit peak power. You are still making more power than you would be shifting and getting back down to say 5500rpms. I had a ported head when my stock cams made power to 7600, stock head would probably taper a bit earlier, but even so, shifting at 7k makes baby Jesus cry. You'll get yanked by he same car shifting a bit higher. If you want, take a dyno graph, and for comparison sake note the hp at every 100 rpms from 5500 to 7000, and then divide by the 16 points you measured hp at, and then do the same from 6000 to 7500 and get the average there as well, that should be all you need to know when to shift. If you want, you can do the same with the torque, and add the 2 together and see what will work best for you.

Our power band hadn't stopped peaking on stock head/cams. I'm just curious where it'll peak.

I have tested shifting early vs late on my cobalt and this car. Its definitely pulls ahead more shifting higher rpm.

It definitely makes a difference, as you said. My friend (the one you met) rides his out to 7450 on the same setup you have. I guess let others do what they wish.

Knock a blade off a box fan and sit on it with the dial cranked up.
