COOLANT question

ok so i got my balt back from the body shop.. little rinky dink place but they do good work. and they put the green coolant in my engine and supercharger system... i am going to get it flushed and put the pink back in but i was wondering if it is ok to have the green in for the time being. can anyone tell me the difference between the 2?

Aye, as long as they did a full system flush before filling it with the green stuff, you should have no problems. There's actually no real reason to go back to the red stuff until you need a fluid change.

Dex-cool sucks ass anyway. As long as they flushed it out good before filling it with the green stuff, you're OK. After I switch from my summer blend to my winter coolant next winter I will be using the green stuff.

As far as what it does, it doesn't matter what coolant they put in as long as they make sure to flush the entire coolant system 100%.

With green antifreeze you should change it more often. With dexcool or HOAT coolant you can change it less frequently. The most important thing is to never mix the coolants. Even the smallest amount of dexcool mixing with green coolant can be catastrophic to the cooling system.

mine still has water and its dropped to 26 a few times...although you can see it still has a little dexcool in it due to the light-pink color.

Also, one reason GM stopped using green antifreeze, and why almost all auto manufacturers have stopped using it, is because it contains phosphate. Aluminum will bond with phosphate making aluminum phosphate. Aluminum phosphate is insoluable and hard and if built up can cause blockage in the coolant channels and on the water pump.

Green antifreeze also contains silicate, which will erode the soft aluminum allowing phosphate and aluminum to bond even easier. G-05, which is an HOAT (hybrid organic acid technology) also contains silicate, but does not contain any phosphorus, making it safer to use in modern cars. Many European cars use HOAT as well as Ford and Chrysler as well now.

Dexcool is an OAT coolant. It contains no phosphorus or silicate. Some European cars, GM and almost all Japanese cars use OAT (dexcool) coolant in their vehicles.
