coolant temps really low

so lately my coolant temps have been around 145-165 F. only when i sit for a while do they go up to 180. i was wondering why this could be happening. btw, its not insanely cold here. it fluctuates between 50 and 80 F here. i was wondering if ill need a new thermostat??

my coolant temps have been around 150, its because its getting colder outside so ur car is sucking in a lower intake temp allowing ur engine to run cooler

You need a Thermostat. When I run my heat my temp sits between 195-198, without heat still cold outside though it stays 188-190.

**** me. I have the same problem.. While driving my coolant temps are roughly 163-171°F.. But it only started happening now that it has gotten cold, and by cold I mean 30°F.. My heat still blows like a New York hooker so I'm not sure.

Yeah sounds like you guys could all use new ones. dealer should take care of it if it's under warranty. I had mine replaced last year when it stopped reading completely, it was stuck open.

what kind of price would i be looking at if i had the dealer replace my thermostat??

I have not dont one on a SC ecotec but it takes between 5-10 minutes from the top side on a 2.2-2.4.

I just replaced my thermostat, I was seeing coolant temps as low as 120 on the highway before doing so. After replacing, I've been seeing around 175 with constant fluctuation. It will usually register 172-176 dependent on driving conditions. The temperature will hang at 172 for a few seconds, then go up to 174, then 176, then back down to 172, pretty much constantly. If you accelerate away from a light, it will drop to 169ish, go back up then fluctuate, thoughts?
