Your probably looking at 1200 bucks..... Arround that, when it's all said and done

I just read the whole thread, if I were you I would do a little investigating before you buy pistons, definately run a compression test, are you getting blowby?

Thanks for the advice? Sorry whats blow by?

Thanks!!

It's where the compression rings in the piston have greater clearance to the cylinder wall and oil gets past the rings and burnt in the combustion chamber.
The car will blow dark smoke out of the exhaust (burning oil).

Because the clearance between the piston rings and the cylinder walls are greater, fuel can also be forced past the rings into the engines oil, which dilutes it and can cause premature wear to the bearings because the oils sheering/cooling properties has now changed.

Just out of curiosity what kind of tune did you have on it? Canned? Custom? Stock?

Well the stealership quoted me for 1900 dollars just in labor to replace a single piston. This is honestly not something I can do. So I am going to do some research but I need some ideas on what I can do. Looks like something I am going to have to do myself. They are saying they need to take the block out, which I know is not required.

What tools am I going to need to do this, I have a couple how to guys. But I guess I am going into this ***** deep. I have a general knowledge of the car.

FYI, anyone that wants to help me install this I would be willing to throw a pioneer in dash/dvd/nav/bluetooth set your way. I would even install it if local. Really need some help here. This is my DD.

gm is going to rape you with labor. Your better off finding a different shop.

Where are you located? I might be able to help.

ahhh #4... lol when it happend to me i just did the work myself.. took a little less then a full weekend and 2 12 packs with a friend.. i personally think the lsj engine is easy as hell to work on.. i didn't run into any huge problems. I would get the eagle rods and diamond pistons. I have a few friends with that set up and tehy can't complain and love the added security. grab a set of ARP head studs cometic head gasket and your good to go and a new cat... or just take it off completely haha

Thanks man!! I am located right outside Charleston SC. I called a local tuner shop, they want about a grand to do it. I guess which seems about fair. But obviously I am going to try and get the best quality work for the lowest price.

I ordered the GM book for the LSJ from crate engine depot. So hopefully that will help. What special tools are needed for the job. Are they expensive etc?

Piston ring compressor
torque wrench in/lb and ft/lb
Cylinder wall hone depending on how the walls look

I personally don't see you needing rods. The pistons are the weak point of the lsj. Rods themselves are pretty strong

I have spare stock pistons laying around if you are looking to just throw some in

Guys like this are what make me hate this forum. Stop being a douche and lend a helpful hand if you're going to take the time to post in the thread. Otherwise move on and stop being such a negative low life.

Good luck getting your car running though jcutler.

Thanks man!!! I used to be in your neck of the woods. I lived in NoVA before I came down here.

And I agree, some of the kids on these forums are just trolls who care about a post count.

Are they sold?

I am guessing they were sold before this thread was even created. I have been in and out of the for sale section for the past week and never saw a set of pistons being sold. Anyways, your post is not contributing to this thread. Just trolling. Move on
