Ok so that is way too many pages to read but here i go anyway. people say the car doesnt do 160 is what im getting. I live in germany and drive the autobahn daily. I have done some insane speeds in some insane cars. I have done 160+ in my cobalt with 4 yes 4 passengers and have no problems. This is one of the safest cars to do those speeds in that i have driven. Now dont flame. I have driven all kinds of cars to include mercedes, bmw's, porches, audi's, and any other fast car you can probably think of. Most of which are way safer to be doing these speeds in. But the cobalt is one of the most comfortable to do 160 in. I ride 160mph with my knee on the steering wheel driving. But then again german highways are alot more safe than american highways anyway. I would love to put some great videos up for you guys but i am deployed to iraq right now and my car has winter tires on it so my wife cant even put up vids for me. But as soon as i get back and the weather is clear enough to ride summers i will post up vids of the cobalt doing max speeds

can no one here read? it wasn't about how fast the car goes, or how fast it gets there, it was that there is a LIMITER. he did not post this video saying how fast his car was, or even bragging that it could go that fast. it was again, to show there was a limiter. say it with me now, l i m i t e r

I don't think I've ever posted a single thread stating any 1/4 mile times... there's a reason for it... the Cobalt is the daily driver, it's not a track car by any means. I could honestly care less if the car runs a 13 or 14 or hell even a 15 in the 1/4 mile because anyone who knows anything knows its all about those traps... i'm at 110-112 how about you?

The 07 Cobalt as tested by no less than 4 different magazines for top speed (1 on a Germany track) and all tested with this comment: Top speed (drag limited): is under 150 mph. They also noted that the speedometer was very innacurate at top speeds over 140 as well (10% off). Sure your speedo may be regsitering 160+ but you aint going 160+.

UNLESS a Cobalt has very extensive body mods to reduce its drag such as a Bonneville salt flat Cobalt racer who by the way are topping out with their modded bodied supercharged cars at under 155 through calibrated timing lights. The modded s/c engines making 400+ hp are in the 162 mph range.

I love reading the posts though of all the new top speed record holders on here. Makes for some great reading and you got the Bonneville salt flat racers worried their records are gonna be broken.... .

And since you've got me so amped now tell me the general reason why its not safe to go 150+ in a car cause guess what last time i checked GM could have put H rated tires on the car and the fuel cut a lot lower than 158.

Please hit me with the public road excuse. 99% of the roads are public. And half you hypocrites will sit down and watch a street fire vid of a Bugatti Veryon doing 200 plus on the autobahn (A PUBLIC ROAD) and think thats the coolest thing in the world than hop in this old ass thread and try and bitch me out over something i did over a year and a half ago.

Whats more dangerous a car doing 90 mph on the highway at 4 in the afternoon with moderate traffic weaving in and out of lanes or a car by its self on a straight road doing 158 at 2am in the morning? NO the answer isn't "Both are stupid" The question was pick which one is more dangerous.

I'll chime in on speeding on public roads..sure why not...

I do on a daily basis well over 160 with my Z06. I take freeway cloverleafs, entrances and exits at speeds that would make most people crap in their pants.

There aint a track within 500 miles of me where I can do 160+ on it, so its public roads baby. If you wanna drive the speed limit stay the hell out of my way.

I should have mentioned when I do the very high speed runs, its with no other traffic on this particular roadway. It has no entrances or exits for 4 miles and the other direction of traffic in separated by a 400 yard ravine. If I wreck, its only gonna be me, I wont take anyone else out cept maybe a few rabbits.

I do however drive fast in traffic, but I do not cut people off or **** them off by acting stupid UNLESS they **** me off by purposely trying to slow me down, and then watch the hell out cause ill scare the living sh** out of them then.

In link below I took the short video a few weeks ago scaring the hell out of 2 cars on a on ramp and I was bouncing off the rev limiter at 100 coming out of the curve before I even got onto the freeway. They both were flipping me off out the window after I passed them when I looked back. The car is so loud when I'm WOT it pisses people off as I go by them. Usually on this particular entrance im easily doing 125-130 in 4th coming out of the turn. I bounced off the limiter as I didn't want to shift in the turn itself. This is how I do every freeway entrance I approach. I have some pretty good exit vids as well.

But seriously he really isn't close to 160....maybe like 148-152...I mean **** I have had some vehicles say some ridiculous ****...and motorcycles are even worse (I have had my 600 say 190 something which is sooo funny)

 

the car hit a fuel cut. So your saying the car thought it was doing 158 and there for engaged the fuel limiter programed into the computer based off the the speed sensor in your wheels not what your speedo says.......Ight just making sure.

 

Unlike our bikes which have 10-15% error most cars these days are within 2mph from 0 to max reading. As long as proper tire sizes and stock gears are in place a car uses in/out speed sensors and the abs sensors to come up with a correct speed.

Not to add anymore fuel to this stupid year old flame fest but I usually top out everything I own at least once and have video or picture to prove it. But I live in Nebraska where you can see your road and cross roads for miles in the right places.

Ha i won't go over 80 on the LIE those cops can materialize out of thin air it seems on that highway. Must be some new technology they have or something....
