darton sleeves?
alright im contemplating building my stock motor or getting the gen 3 zzp block and building it. building my stock block would be alot cheaper but on the zzp site it says that the darton sleeves destroy the stock lsj block? is that true? has anyone had good results using darton sleeves? my goal is 600whp by next year. once/if i hit 600whp, ill probably want more so will the darton sleeves be fine? 700whp give or take will probably be my end goal

yea im not 100% what zzp was saying. if you type in google darton sleeves lsj, you will see 2 links from zzp (they dont work) but under it you can read "When breaking people thought the sleeves we're weak so they installed darton kits. Problem with Darton sleeves is that they destroy your block. The block ..." you cant see anything else said besides that.

I know the link you are talking about. The block takes modification for Dayton sleeves which can potentially weaken the block. There are only a few actually authorized dealers that can do darton sleeves properly.
Mr.B sleeves or a Gen 3 block would be the way to go IMO

I sent the only block I ever had sleeved directly to darton and it wasn't any more expensive than any other place would charge to sleeve it.
The ecotec blocks have a LOT of material removed from them when being cut for the sleeves, which can weaken the lower side of the blocks and possibly allow more shifting or possible cracking around where the sleeves are installed. ZZP has articles where they cut open the blocks after sleeving and there were cracks spreading from the sleeved area into the main webbing.

Not saying either is better than the other, just saying i don't think you're aware of the price diffference.

I know you're an "old timer" (not sure if you're still in the game or not) but i'm assuming you aren't aware of Mr.B's prices... You can get his sleeves and have him install them for just a little more than HALF of what the Dartons cost ALONE. God only knows what the machine work on them costs....

Darton charged us $600 for the installation work IIRC, and yes the sleeves are fantastically expensive... but at the time it was the only option.
