Diagnostic Scan tool

I have a question about where and if I can get a diagnostic scan tool for our Cobalt SS supercharged. Something that is good a vehicle specific that will tell me what some of these damn codes we spit are for (CEL for intake) without having to strip everything back down to stock and take in to the dealership, preferably one that can clear codes as well Anybody know of anything?

The cobalt is a CAN pcm. You can get basic data with a generic reader but to access all data you will need a can interface. I just checked the data lines into the pcm from gm servive manuals, there is 2 lines, High speed data hi + and high speed data Low -

Not quite.Just because it's connected to the HS GMLan doesnt mean it's utilized or absolutely neccessary for scan tool diagnostic functions or even for service programming flash routines for that matter.

Yes, the LSJ's P12 PCM IS connected to the HS GMLan (DWCAN) but functions with it in a somewhat limited fashion.
(compared to the 2.2/2.4L engines for instance.)
There ARE some PCM I/O functions that rely on the CAN interface such as instrumentation outputs (ECT and VSS to the IPC/DIC for example) and items such as Theft Deterrant Fuel Enable but these are essentially just "gatewayed" between the HS GMLan and Low Speed GMLan (SWCAN) by the Body Ccontrol Module (which resides on BOTH networks)

In a nutshell a CAN capable scan tool interface is NOT required for almost all LSJ scan tool powertrain functions.
If the LSJ box was primarily a CAN ECU your Aeroforce couldnt even function on the Cobalt as it connects to the OBD2 Class 2 bus (J1850 VPW) exclusively.

I use HP-Tuners, being as I already own it. Just too damn bad there's no support to tune this LSJ with it.
