did i just mess up?!?

ok i just painted my headlights today, and when i was putting back in the clear outside lense, when i was finished i noticed that the sealant i was using said just silicon sealant. now was i supposed to get sealant/adhesive? or will the silicon be ok? BTW if anyone plans on doing this the best way to get out the old sealant is to get a torch, and a flat head screw driver you dont care about and heat the end of the screw driver and run it threw the crack, it melts it and pushes it out.. took me like 5 min to do. and you can heat a razer blade to do the lense.... well so did i mess up?! i hope not...

ehh this doesnt look good, seeing as i got no replys =(

Silicone is o.k., but it is not the best product in the world to use for that application. When I did mine, I used a product made by 3M called TPO Plastic repair. You have to acquire an Automix gun to use it though. That is what I used to attatch the lenses to the body (it dries in under 2 minutes). I then applied butyl tape (aka dum dum tape) over the area where the lens meets the body of the lamps. I did this about 3 months ago and have had zero issues ever since. I manage a paint and body shop so if you have any more questions, just give me a shout. See link below to look at how mine came out.

You should be okay, let it dry for a few hours.

I used the Black Caulk................ladies love the Black Caulk. And it looks better than the grey. Paint the grey housings black too for a cooler effect and then clear them.

all u have to do is put it in the oven on 225 for like 20 min
that way u can just pull it apart & then put it back in the oven with the same temp & time
then just put them back together
that way u just use the same sealant

Yes, but it is not tape like what you are thinking. It is the same stuff that is used to seal of bolt on glasses for cars. Works very well.
