It's funny this topic was brought up.. Cause with gas prices I have been putting the lower octane stuff in my car.. Well there is a big different in the price.. But I guess when it comes down to the crunch.. It's really only a couple bucks your saving with the lower stuff.. I mean the difference in gas prices arn't much.. I have notice that when I use my 20c off a liter of fuel. If I put $30 in my car I only save $6 on that tank.. So $24.. That's say brings gas from $1.00/liter to $0.80/liter..

I am gonna start putting the good stuff back in.. Cause I have notice power loss.. Not that I do this all the time, but.. I notice I can't really spin my tires that great anymore in 1st or 2nd.. Usally when I did this (again I only do it to show off once in a while) I could spring right through 2nd and chirp it in 3rd.. I can't even get them to lite up in 1st lol..

I also notice a power loss when I am giving it.. It doesn't wanna pick up very fast at all.. And it feels as though its cugging... I will switch over on my next tank.. I didn't really think you could tell a difference but you sure can...

My 1990 Beretta GTZ (2.3 Quad 4).. Can ONLY take Premium fuel.. Right on the manual and the dash..

 

Here in NJ it is unlawful to self serve, so one time some jackass put regular in my SS/SC even though I TOLD him premium. All the gas stations are run by people who barely speak English anymore around here.

If you don't drive it hard, it really won't hurt anything. It ran great for normal driving and not using much boost. Obviously the higher octane is only important when using boost really. Otherwise the engine is your standard 2.0 4 cylinder and that will run off 87 octane without issue.

So, if you do get a tank of 87, take it easy with it until it used up.

I did notice a dip in gas mileage by about 2mpg though versus the 93 I usually get.

You really should pay the price and put 91+ in there. It will help ensure your car will treat you well. The manual recommends it for a reason. It certainly won't hurt, but prolonged 87 MIGHT.

Especially now with the gas prices so high, the actual percentage you pay for premium is actually LESS. There is STILL a 20cent spread between regular and premium at most stations. That's the same spread that was there when gas was $1 cheaper. So now, the spread stayed the same, and the price went up, so you actually pay LESS of a premium for higher grade gas now.

 

I own a 1995 ford f150 right now with 178000 miles on it and it has two tanks ang gets horrible mileage and right now gas is around 3 bucks a gallon and it cost's me a lil over 80!!! to fill up it sucks

There is a gas station near my house that sells 100 octane and 110 octane fuels and since i am used to payin 80 bucks for gas i should just fill up on the 110 octane for my cobale ss s/c

 

do u get better gas milage with higher octane or worse?? and just wondering whats ur guys econ for 100kms?? on ur SS... cuss all of a sudden after the summer mine jumped from like 9.5 and now its at 11.7???

If you are looking to race go with 91-93, but if not put what you want in, especially if you want to save money.

 

Since we're considering how 2 bucks isn't a difference, if you wanted to go best fuel, CAM 2. Of course it's like, 4.67 a gallon, but damn will your car love it. I put in 93 right now though, I just know about CAM 2 cause I'm on a pit crew up here in Va.

 

No, that's not what i meant. I meant $2 difference TOTAL for full tank of 91 vs. 87, not $2 per gallon more. Hell no, $2 /gal more is a huge difference! there is usually a .20 cent difference per gallon between 87 and 91. That adds up to about $2 more for a tank of 91 than 87. That's what i meant.
